I just had to share this as I read it today…

Research conducted by Rebecca Downes Music has shown what pet owners say their animals love.
Half of our pets become excited at certain types of music when played.

More than a third of dogs love rock
30% of cats love classical tunes

And

More than 40% of hamsters enjoy hip hop and rap beats…..!

Did I laugh at that!

That is really cute. I heard dogs love reggae. I wonder if I should try playing a hip hop song for Orko. 🤔

Apparently some animals dance around, some jump up and down or simply get over excited- just like humans!

So go for it Orko!

This could be just a coincidence but I put some hip hop on and after about 20 minutes Orko came out! He had some water and I gave him a chicken and turkey treat which he took to his burrow. Phew now I can turn this racket off. Lol.

I don't suppose this is the article? Or maybe just a report about the article? It's hilarious and interesting research. I have never tried our hamsters with hip hop! I know they have reacted to scary music on TV and didn't like it and they love childrens nursery rhymes and classical music! And go all starry eyed. I used to think it was calming.

Off to find some hip hop! I have something somewhere that is celtic rap/hip hop. And something that is more Ska - did they mention Ska?! :ROFLMAO:

Aw how cute they liked nursery rhymes. Who is the ska artist you have?

I played some classical music to my hamster yesterday and she fell asleep right at the front of the cage.

It's only partly ska (I think) - I don't know much about ska. It's a Manu chau one.

I can't see hamsters leaping around to music though lol! They do listen and react though! Charlie's favourites were "Over the Rainbow" and "Run rabbit run" (luckily he didn't understand the words to the last one!)

What about the TV? Hubby had football on and Albert sat on the arm of the sofa watching. I thought hamsters had bad eye sight but Albert was very engrossed. 3 males in the house and they all like football 🙄

Do hamsters mind music when they are asleep?
I work from home and play some music during the day when Hammie is sleeping. (sometimes pretty loud to not hear the neighbours noises) and stay focused on my work.
Is this bad for the hamster? Do they need complete silence when sleeping during the day?
She doesn't seem to be bothered by it, but maybe she is and she just stays in her house.

My Syrian seems to sleep through anything :-) We sometimes have the TV on during the day. Maybe just don't have it too loud.

I think it can depend on the music & the individual hamster but general background music should be fine as long as it’s not too loud.

I have music on sometimes in the day and it doesn't seem to bother Albert. I don't have it on very loud but I do sing along a lot. The only time Albert has come out to investigate was when I played "Bomber" by Motorhead ( my favourite Motorhead track). Albert came out of his nest, looked at me and then ran on his wheel for the whole track. When the track finished he ran to the front of the cage to look at me. I told Albert "you've got great taste in music". Albert then ran straight back to his nest.
