Introducing Sandi

Hello ,
Hope all the hammys are doing well .
Just wondered if anyone could offer some advice .
We all had a bad bout of flu before Christmas and it’s really set the taming of Sandi back as I really didn’t want to give him any germs and we were very poorly , so we were very careful with going near him . He is so lovely but this week he has been desperate to escape , we have a large play pen which he has been going into in the morning but after 5 mins he wants to come out of that . Its tricky as we have to spend time with him in the morning as he wakes up very late . He burrows and uses his wheel /sandbath and makes use of his enclosure , also has a dig box etc but I am worried he isn’t happy ! Any advice ?

Hi there. I'm sure things will get back to normal soon. It's difficult having morning sessions as he's probably ready for bed! You could maybe try giving him a bit of breakfast when he's out and see if that helps? The only other thing is, if he's up and out in the mornings, it's possible he will sleep later .......... Maybe you could try skipping one morning and then making some cage noise around 9.30pm. We put the veg out around then and the hamsters get in the habit of getting up for it at that time :-) Sorry you've all had that nasty flu bug - hope you're feeling better.

Thanks Maz. He doesn’t seem scared of us , maybe he is just being a crazy teen ! I wlll try and give him veg early tonight . He likes to sleep in the hide that’s visible so it’s super cute seeing him eat with his eyes shut and see him in his funny sleeping positions …😊
