My little companion, Hammy

Have now found a couple of places where Hammy sleeps in her tunnel purely by chance. While my hands were touching the base of her cage as I was looking into it earlier, I noticed one spot was warm. Wondering why, I opened the gate and gently picked a small amount of bedding off. Just then, who should make an appearance, none other than Hammy herself. I've just found another spot where it is warm, but i won't disturb her this time. It seems she is sleeping up against the base of the cage, and the heat of her body is what I can feel seeping through. :) Not surprised shes down there in this weather. I think I would be as well.
Haha me too!

Hi. I'm more surprised that I could actually feel her body heat through the thick plastic of the cage base.

It's ok I've edited it :-)

Thanks. I'm always doing it. Either missing a letter of putting a different one in

Tell me about it - I am hopeless trying to type on my phone keyboard! I prefer my laptop keyboard :-)

I'm enjoying my new hammy. This little one seems to have a bit of a destructive streak in her. \shes been having a right good go at the mushroom and pumpkin hides. I'm going to have to replace them with ceramic ones when I get around to it.

If she likes destroying things, then maybe give her the occasional cardboard egg box to rip up :-)

She has a couple of cardboard tubes in already, but for some reason she hasn't touched them

Try an egg box :-)

Yeah. My Kashi loved an egg box with treats inside. She also liked new things in her cage to explore and investigate.

As long as it's a cardboard one :-) You can also make great boredom breaker treats by cutting the cones off egg boxes and painting them with flour and water and then rolling it in seeds. Mine went crazy for those. @Lovelyness had a few egg box boredom breaker ideas as well :-)

Sorry just edited my post above!

Hammy is slowly gaining her confidence. She has taken food out of my hand and has licked some water off my finger ever so gently.

She's spent most of the day down that tunnel. Won' t be long before she gets up.

So she's decided to sleep in that tunnel? Does she have a large house as an option? If so then personally I'd leave a trail of sunflower seeds leading to the house and put a bit of cheese or cucumber inside the house and remove the tube. To tempt her to move in. But it can take them a few days to develop a nesting instinct.
