Thank you for your kind wordsI'm so sorry to hear about your loss, my heart goes out to you. I know no words can make it better. Only time will ease the heartache. Ness

Thank you for this it means a lotI am so sorry you lost your little fur baby. It is very hard to cope when we've had to make that incredibly difficult decision. You can share your grief with us and have some virtual hugs from fellow hamster owners who have been there. Crying is a normal reaction and part of a process. But constant triggers can make you feel worse. The cage can be one of them. I find it helps to put a blanket over the cage until you feel ready to deal with cleaning it out. It's a sort of sign of respect but it also helps prevent you feeling so raw every time you see the familiarity. For me I can't clean it out straight away but it's too painful to look at. Then when one day feels like the day I get on with it. People have different ways of dealing with that.
It's important to protect yourself during this time. The loss is big and leaves a hole in our hearts and we question all kinds of things but try to think every day, what a happy wonderful life you gave your fur baby. He knew he was loved. Be thankful for all the joy he gave you. It is just time, but sometimes after you've had a little memorial or goodbye ceremony it can help to move to the next stage where it's not so raw. You've already created a beautiful little memorial for him on here.
In time you'll remember all the happy times. If you feel you can't get past crying or cope with the grief, there is very good support from the Blue Cross pet bereavement service - by email or phone. They are very good and can really help. They have special words. I'll link it below. It's in our article about coping with bereavement
He is playing free over the Rainbow Bridge now - free from pain. And he will be in the company of many other of our hammy friends xxx
