Hi all,

What do people recommend as chew toys for their hamsters, please? Obie loves his wimzee toothbrush, but I want to offer something different to prevent boredom.

Mr Maggie has a whimzee crocodile, some hamster safe sticks and a pressed flower disc which he gnaws at.

I’ve just got some mahogany fruit pod slices and monkey nuts in their shells which are in the freezer for him too.

Thank you. I didn't realise they could have monkey nuts. Would these be suitable for a Robo, or is that too much nut to give them in one go?

You could make some chew type things for him. My robo used to love egg box pyramids with seeds stuck to them. You cut one of the pointy inside bits out of a cardboard egg box, paint it with flour and water and roll it in small seeds. Then leave till dry. My robo was so excited and funny with his. He toppled it over, stuck his head in it and had quite a fight with it, but he loved it. Whimzees are the popular ones. You could try him with a Vitakraft honey and spelt chew also.

This is for a pack of 5 but you can probably buy them singly in a pet shop

One of the pyramid chews is on this page of the linked thread below - post 105. You can do the same thing with a cardboard toilet roll inner as well. This second pyramid didn't have as much on it as the first one!

The white craft glue/PVA is safe, always best to check the label to be sure but they should be fine.

That's amazing Rainbow - it looks lovely. I haven't got far yet - still one day to go though. Looking at that reminded me I have run out of Yippees. Beryl made that not me. ;)

My Blossom loved chewing egg boxes and lots of different natural chews e.g dried banana leaves, coconut husk
