Hi everyone,

I’m currently upgrading my hamster’s (her name is Waffles!) setup to the BUCATSTATE Metal Cage 3.0 (120 x 60 x 62 cm) and I’m really excited about it.

I’ve chosen this cage mainly because of the size and overall suitability for a Syrian hamster. From what I’ve read, larger enclosures can significantly reduce stress and allow for more natural behaviours like burrowing and exploring, so I’m hoping this will be a really positive upgrade for her overall wellbeing.

That said, I also really love the aesthetic in the promo photos – the soft pastel / underwater-style setups with layered bedding and cute accessories. I’d love to recreate something similar, but in a way that’s still fully appropriate and practical.

I know a lot of those setups are styled more for looks than function, so I’m trying to find a balance between:
- A clean, themed aesthetic
- And a setup that’s actually suitable (correct sizes, not overcrowded, proper enrichment, deep bedding, etc.)

Does anyone have:
- Links to hamster-safe accessories (especially hides, sand baths, platforms, etc.)
- Recommendations that fit that ocean / pastel / fantasy vibe
- Or photos of your own setups with a similar look?

I’m particularly interested in:
- Larger ceramic hides (underwater / beach / pastel style that are big enough for Syrians)
- Clear or pastel wheels that are 28–30 cm
- Natural pieces that still fit the “beach / underwater” vibe

For example, I’ve seen larger ceramic mushroom hides that look great and seem suitable when sized correctly, but I’d love to see what others are actually using in real setups.

Any links, suggestions, or photos would be really appreciated!

Thanks 😊

You can get various colours of paper substrate here (scroll down page) - they are Bucatstate bedding so if you're not in the Uk, to use this shop, they are probably available elsewhere.

Hamsters we love

Etsy often has some individual hamster creations made from wood. And Happy Henry homes has good under substrate hideouts as mentioned above.

Ceramic and resin items are ok in hamster cages (eg a coloured starfish?) but with the resin, just check there are no sharp edges - if there are, it can be sanded a bit.

All the items on Hamsters we love are suitable sizes and usually say if it's dwarf or syrian sized.

You can get ceramic shell hides on Amazon, but most of them are only big enough for a dwarf hamster.

Wheels. The Niteangel supersilent wheels come in various colours (they have a light blue or green). For platforms and houses you could paint them with different colours of plastikote to create a theme :-) A lot of people have done that. Plastikote is a hamster-safe water based waterproofing paint, to make wood items wipe clean.

Various different colours here

Also Anna at honey_three_paws_hides on Instagram makes houses and platforms decorated with any design you want :-)

Hihi!! I LOVE Happy Hamstery products. They are breeders but also sell good products with often sales.

I personally love all Niteangel products. Good quality and hamster safe. I actually recommend going to a place like hobby lobby to check out any ceramics. Since we are approaching summer, it’s possible they might have something you can repurpose for your hammys cage!

OH and to add, Happy Hamstery has a subscription box. It is $50 but it has so many good quality items in it. The summer box will be coming out soon, and after it is shipped, they will have the individual items up on the app or website. Not sure exactly when it will be shipped out, other than it will be around July. Just something to keep in mind! I have a cute bunch of summery ocean items from the box last year.
