I noticed the Aura Plexi is being sold on ebay from Germany :-) They're selling it for £189, which is more than I expected it to cost if sold in the Uk. But it does look like it's available at least.

Hopefully it will cost less than that when it's sold in the Uk - there are probably import charges included in that.

If it needs to be returned, it could be difficult though.

I'm surprised P@H isn't negotiating a deal.

It's interesting though. Most people want a package, hamster, cage, food etc. Possibly not too big, coordinated with the existing furniture and space. The Omlet fits, but if you are a committed hamster lover, you will probably want an Aura.

If it's damaged they would accept a return I am sure but it would need checking. I think returning just because you don't like it might not be possible.

It's common with newly released cages, that they are available in Europe much sooner than they are in the Uk - because the manufacturer is in Europe. It can often be a year before they become available at Uk stockists. I don't know why, it's just the way it seems to be.

However the fact a German seller is actually shipping to the Uk now is encouraging because for a long time, we couldn't get hold of any cages sold in Germany - there are quite a lot of good cages there from different manufacturers and they stopped shipping to the Uk after Brexit. I believe the customs regulations were just too arduous and expensive. Gradually now, some companies are starting to ship to the Uk again but the prices are much higher due to customs costs presumably so higher import/export charges. Credit to Rodipet who never stopped shipping to the Uk :-) I can't remember if Getzoo stopped but they are shipping again now. And gradually there is the odd cage available on Zooplus in Germany again, to ship to the Uk (the Barney and 120cm Marrakech) - again at higher prices however.

I don't know which pet companies are doing deals over stocking and selling the Aura - we'll have to wait and see :-)

The Omlet is a "minimum" cage like the Savic Plaza and although there are larger cages, some owners might prefer it. I think the cost of both could put people off now there are a lot more cages and enclosures to choose from. There never seems to be the perfect cage however!

Fascinating! The hamster pound must be worth a bit. Yes, Brexit has narrowed down choice quite a bit. Cages are designed to appeal to people, but I wonder what the ideal hamster cage would look like based on what hamsters want.

I think most cafes end up having to be adapted to suit sometimes which is maybe why some people like non barred enclosures. But they can have their foibles as well. I wouldn’t manage one as it would be difficult to pick up and move or have at waist height. I was quite tempted with the Marrakech 120 though - it has quite manageable dimensions and would sit on top of a coffee table. it doesn’t have a front opening door which I like though and I miss that of it’s not there. I prefer barred cages generally because you can dismantle them and they’re lighter to move and you can always add bedding panels.

My ideal cafe was something like the Aura :-). With narrow bar spacing, a deep base and a large front door and top door. Its great for deep bedding but if you don’t have 25cm of bedding it’s quite tall.

Actually the Omlet holds 30cm of bedding and the Aura 25cm. But the Aura is bigger :-)
