24 Dwarf hamsters rescued

Happy Hamsters Uk took in a rescue of 24 dwarf hamsters the other day. Multiple litters of babies. The Mother sadly had a broken hip and had to be put to sleep. Most of the females are on pregnancy watch apparently.

This is what can happen when people are sold a pair, who have been mis-sexed and the owner doesn't know how to sex the babies from the first unexpected litter.

This post is not asking members to donate by the way - just information. They have apparently had many donations now.

Those poor hamsters. This could have been prevented if the person made sure their hamsters lived alone and never came into contact with each other.

Sadly, pet shops still sell dwarf hamsters in pairs, or even trios, and some owners think that must be ok. I don't know the back story behind it though.

I’ve seen so many multiple rescues this year now it is very sad, still so much misinformation out there from pet shops & I think we’re still seeing the aftermath of a lot of people buying pets during lockdowns without really knowing much about what they were buying.
