I know a lot of people on this forum are from places around Europe. I live in America which, hamster care wise, is not good at all. (In my opinion of course). I was wondering if anyone is in the same boat as me. I am able to find hamster care products that work sometimes and also products not specifically meant for hamsters. (A lot of that is thanks to the amazing people on this forum!) But, I was wondering if anyone knows of an American store that has proper hamster care and sells most products you would need. I am able to buy Niteangel products through Amazon, but if anyone knows of good companies closer to me, let me know. It would just be an incredibly convenient thing to know about. Thanks!

Hi. I think there are a few members from the US and Canada :-) Probably about equal numbers. @clacombe is from the US and may know about stores, but from what I've seen it is mainly Amazon and Etsy that people use. It is similar in the Uk - pet stores don't stock suitable things, and we rely on online purchases a lot from smaller stores or Amazon. However we can get some things shipped from Germany :) Really those things are similar to Niteangel in the US (and some even look identical).

As regards bedding, I'm not sure if they still do it, but Walmart used to be the place to get Boxo in bulk (paper bedding) which worked out cheap.

I think what we do have in the Uk now is a lot of small "cottage industries" who sell online. People who make hamster items like houses, platforms, or sell sprays and other good food items or items for cages and we possibly have more choice of wheels as well. Although in the US you can get the silent runner and niteangel wheels a lot cheaper than we can! We have to pay import tax which bumps the price up.

It is annoying isn't it as buying from Etsy or Getzoo in Germany, can have high postage costs.

I think there is not one store that will sell everything needed and it's a case of finding different things in different places, or making the odd thing yourself :-) Cardboard is your friend! Have you seen the cardboard creations thread?

Yes- I agree with what Maz has said. I can get basic items from pet stores, but I like liking for the "cottage" small businesses. The Happy Hamstery subscription box is good and the owner sells quality add-ons. I keep an eye on Etsy and Instagram for new ideas. The Send Hamster Mail box has also been a good way to get some nice products I couldn't find in a store, too.
