!Attention! Good Enclosure Pictures Needed!!

Hello hamster friends!!

Today, I have a topic I wanted to mention. As some may know I have an instagram page for my hamster to post cute pics and spread hamster care and my hamster journey!

My main reasoning for starting this account was to be involved in spreading awareness and be a part of the hamster community ! I met many great people along the way!

With that, yesterday for the first time an account has followed me that really concerned me- for starter there were 200-250-ish inches square cages- I know we all have to start somewhere so I don’t like to be harsh on people…but then I noticed this cage contained two Syrian hamsters together!! Even the pfp had of them interacting- (hard to notice at first for me as I’m blind af)

I have approached the girl, and just mentioned about the hurt that could potentially happen to her hamsters and I am sure she does love her little critters and wouldn’t like that but got instantly blocked after.

I realised my page only has cute photos of George on my page and only was constantly sharing hamster care but felt like I should have a few posts dedicated to hamster care from time to time, which made me want to create a reel showing good hamster enclosures in a short video.

This isn’t a must to participate, but if anyone would like to give permission for using their photo of their hamster enclosure for the reel it would be gladly appreciated!! (If you want to be also tagged from whatever you like, instagram, here etc.) I am gladly also going to do so and mention everyone involved! Unless preferring to be anonymous then it is also fine!

I am not tagging the girl, as I don’t like the idea of her being attacked by a bunch of strangers as I feel that would be just considered bullying. I am keeping her identity away from this. She already knows as I told her and what she does with the information is up to her. Sadly, not everyone wants to be educated. I hope everyone understands

That does sound a worrying situation for you. You did well to try and let her know. At least she has blocked you now so you shouldn't have her popping up again. There is only so much you can do sometimes.

I'm happy for you to use a photo of my cage. Tino's might be best as it's recently set up - Raffy's is a mess And even though Raffy's is 120cm cage it maybe isn't the best example as not nearly so full of natural things as some cages are.

It's up to others if they're happy to do so as their photos will be their copyright but as long as someone is happy for you to then that's fine. If you use them could you mention the forum please?

This was a set up in the Plaza 100 for a dwarf hamster - looks very similar though! I only have barred cages, but I think it helps to show people that barred cages can be good

I believe there is nothing wrong with barred cages. As long as the hamster is happy then I don’t see the problem! I only got the tank style one because I just liked the look of it because I actually was planning to get the Slavic plaza but found a guy who made tanks for cheap (for Irish standards)

They are beautiful enclosures ! It will make people feel more included too as it’s not the style of the enclosure it’s meeting the requirements and making sure the hamster is happy ! Thank you so much Maz for participating! I will mention you and your forum

There is a small section of hamster owners who are very negative about barred cages on the internet! My view is both tank and barred cages are good in their different ways and some of it comes down to what people prefer or find easier to use

I agree with Maz, and I think for some hamsters, barred cages can be better. For example, Chinese hamsters appreciate lots of things to climb on, and that's much easier to do with a barred cage.

You're welcome to share these photos but make sure to note it's a cage for a Chinese hamster, otherwise people will worry about the height and the hammocks! You can say the photo is from Daisy from The Hamster Forum.

I have just got Frankie and know at some point the cage will need increasing. When do you feel this would be a good time as I don’t want to unsettle him? I’ve got 2 habitat trails with a tube to link and I have just seen that it should be all one area. Hoping to get a bin cage or something...

Mine is @smol.hamstergeorge. Thank you so much for participating. I am sadly delaying the video as today I found bugs in George’s enclosure. I am very unsure where it came from…I always freeze everything. Maybe it came from the seed mix not too sure.

Oh dear. Hope you get the bugs sorted. George is lovely by the way. Looks like my first ever syrian hamster, Horace that I got when I was ten. Over 50 years ago now. Eeep!
