I've just done Bernard's first proper cage clean. By that i mean take nearly everything out, remove pee spots and put most of the old and some new substrate back in. I added more substrate to increase burrowing scope. Wheel etc gets cleaned another day.

I took the little man out for a health check and weighed him. 26g which is a good weight for a small Robo.
He's filled out a lot since he arrived here which makes me wonder how much he weighed on arrival but didn't have reliable scales at that point.

There is one concern though. I found some faintly orangy pink substrate in a pee corner. Not much and no traces on Bernard (white substrate and mostly white hamster helps) so no immediate need for a vet visit but something to keep an eye on.

Sounds as though he’s doing fine weight wise, I hope the pink substrate is nothing to worry about, could he have got some food or something that might have coloured it a bit there do you think?
How is he after the cage clean?

He went underground while i was still putting things back in.
The discoloured substrate wasn't fresh, it was dry and could have been food but i find that food isn't usually the cause. It's more wishful thinking.
If i wouldn't have cleaned the cage i wouldn't have known. It was only in one part of the cage, next to his house and not visible on the surface. I'm trying to remember if i ever gave him a bit of berry, blueberry probably but it was in the pee spot.
I'll just have to monitor for now.

The tank looks beautiful. It is wonderful Bernard weighs 26g. Orko is 22g. I can understand your concern finding the pinky substrate but this is the first time he has had a total cage clean so it could very well be food related. I know eating reddish food can affect urine colour and it is reassuring you did not find this colour anywhere else.

I hope Bernard is not annoyed with you for making everything clean.

I hope the bit of stained substrate turns out to be nothing. As you say it's a case of keeping an eye on it. And if it happens again you'll know it could be a uti. It doesn't sound like too much upheaval for him if most of the old substrate went back in :) It's tricky spot cleaning with robos isn't it?

At least i know the location of his main pee spot now. It's next to his house, under the cork log where the log rests on the house.

It can be near impossible to find a Robo's or dwarf's pee spot. Finley pees in a corner of his house. I placed a toilet there once but he refused to use it so took it out again.

Dwarfs can be so awkward compared to Syrians who are more predictable because they have routines, use toilets and chuck their poops out of their houses and hides.

Of course there are exeptions but i have only ever heard of one tidy Robo.

I wonder who the tidy robo might be 🤔😆
I have found dwarfs to be predictable & usually use the sand but Chineseys on the other hand, no such luck!

Aw that's lovely :). I find Robos are very good listeners and do like to sit and chat - except they don't say much ha ha

He is looking so calm and at home and grown up now.

Looking cute Bernard, Enjoy your yummy yoghurt drop.

Bernard seems content. He comes onto my hand for his linseeds and listens to me chatting for a while. I offer him his taxi now and again but he rarely wants to come out.

At first he used to run on the saucers in the playground and explore various toys but he hasn't been doing much the last couple of times he was out.

Bit like, seen that, tried that, can i go home now. He does spend a lot of time on his wheel during the night though so he is very active.

I know they are both waiting for me to turn the light off and go upstairs. Bernard keeps popping out of his house checking and Finley run into his house soon as i came in and switched the light on.

Ok boys, i'm going.

He sounds contented in his cage.

He does sound like a happy ham & looks so adorable & attentive in the photos.

Aw, cute little Bernard! 😍 I love the way he is listening to you. I can relate to the waiting for you to go to bed. Orko sometimes comes out one minute after I go to bed. Not very subtle. Lol.
