Most of us use plain white toilet paper sheets torn into strips, for nesting materials. I've always got a fairly basic one rather than the thicker quilted ones (thinner is better). Just recently, I can't find any! They all now seem to be quilted or similar thicker ones - even the Sainsbury's own brand ones. I am sure the must be nomal toilet paper available that is of a cheaper type and not quilted. Any tips?

I use Naked sprout it’s safe, sustainable & a pretty good price but you do have to buy quite a few rolls & online as I don’t think it’s available in any shops.
It tears into strips easily & the hams eeem quite happy with it.

Aldi sells plain 2 and 3ply toilet paper.

I bought a pack of 24 rolls not long ago without my glasses on. Turned out they were scented!
I asked the manager at work if i could donate them to the service i was working in. She said yes but why. They are scented and a good brand.
I replied that they are not suitable for the hamsters.
Got a funny look.

I use Tesco own brand box of tissue for Orko rather then the actual roll I use in the bathroom.

I get them from Sainsbury's online and couldn't find a single one that isn't now quilted (if you read the longer description!) I kept ordering the same ones but they have changed. Tissues can tend to be thicker than toilet paper, but probably ok. The thinner the better!

I'm off to check out Naked Sprout and see if Aldi sell online!

Embossed is basically the same as quilted. They look nice but I just want normal toilet paper!

Sainsbury's sells toilet paper from recycled paper which is also suitable.
I've tended to avoid the recycled ones after reading an article that mentioned all the chemicals used in the recycling process of toilet rolls!

I don't have a single toilet roll in the house right now that didn't turn up embossed or quilted! I do have a few sheets of the old roll left. I think I'll probably just order some on Amazon if Sainsbury's have gone fancy! But which ones - hmmmmmmmmmmmm......

A boxof Kleenex? Then you can separate a piece and use one ply.

I have a box of Presto tissues in front of me :-) They are a bit thick but separated they are fine - although not sure I can be bothered with doing that all the time and would rather have normal toilet paper!

The presto ones are an Amazon brand - I'm not entirely sure if they may have some glue where the layers are held together (as well as perforations) so I won't be using those! I actually used to buy bags of paper strips by Animal Dreams when we had our first hamster but they don't seem to sell the paper nesting strips any more.

I just had a look on rat rations for nesting materials and was shocked to find they sell fluffy bedding! And Kapok.

That is very sad. I wish fluffy bedding was banned.

I wasn't aware of that but makes sense. They are off my shopping list now. Thanks for pointing this out.

I've been using the cheap 2 ply loo roll from Lidl (6 pack).
