Hello ,
For the past couple of weeks my hamster has stopped using her wheel , she has deep bedding and I think she prefers to spend her time underneath . She will come up and eat her seeds from my hand and have a treat … sometimes she will stay out for a bit and play under her log or chew cardboard ( which she loves doing ) and we take her out of her enclosure for short periods or a free roam but she doesn’t seem as active .. she is about 6 months now … she seems to be able to run ok ..just wondering if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks

Are you sure she's not just using it at night when you're asleep :-)? You could try putting a bit of bedding on top of the wheel before you go to bed and see if it's still there in the morning.

What wheel does she have?

No she definitely isn’t as I have one of the hamster pedometers , I am a bit worried something is wrong …

Ah I remember now. It is unusual for a hamster not to use their wheel at all - if it's not jammed. Maybe she is nervous and hiding away underground. Did you try putting a smelly treat in it. Has she used it at all before?

Yes she use to use it , i have noticed she scent marks the back of it .She does come out when we are in the room so she doesn't seem nervous but maybe she doesnt like to be picked up , i think she stopped using it after it was washed but that was a while a go now.. i am thinking she may prefer a more covered wheel but i spent a lot on that wheel :-(

I wonder if it has an aroma left on it after being washing? Maybe? What did you wash it with? You could try rubbing the inside of it with some of her bedding and putting some tasty food in it - eg a bit of cucumber and cheese. It does seem a bit odd.

I just washed it with a bit of washing up liquid and rinsed it well . I will try your suggestions .. thanks for your help

I suppose you could try getting a cheap trixie wheel and adding that as well (still leaving the current wheel in there) - it's enclosed. See if she takes to that. If she does, she might start using both of them.
