Bucatstate 2.0 or Savic 100??

Socks will take a sand bath happily enough, sliding all round a round plastic cake tin type container and rubbing sand into his fur. He only likes Tiny Friends Farm sand from P@H. After a few minutes, or less, he hops out and does other things. He uses his hamster loo fastidiously. He liked the loo that came with his Hamster Heaven, but it cracked. Now he uses a small triangular sand bath in the open as a loo. 🚽🛁

Sandbath update - did take a video but I dont think I can send on here..... I THINK he likes it?

IMG_7255.jpg

Here's him in his coconut (his best thing!) instead.

Did a squeak when first spotted it and went in - and some frantic digging around (was going round in circles haha) but also I guess he's never seen sand?

But then he kept going back to it every 10 mins or so, he'd do his rounds then pop back and do a little dig / sit in it.... so I'm guessing it can stay!

Adorable picture! It's so nice he spends time enjoying being up and about. The sand bath was a good move!

He is so cute in his coconut! :-) Yes it sounds like the sand bath is a hit :-)

He wakes up about 9pm and as far as we can tell is literally on the go until about 7am haha. He's very busy!! He always looks knackered when we catch him out in the morning its like he staggers back to the nest haha. It's just a shame we cant spend more time with him, silly nocturnal things haha. Just hope he likes his new cage as much!

He is v skittish still, I can see him ever being one of those 'sleeps in my arms' hams but is slowly warming up to a hand giving him a seed etc but not a fan of being stroked as yet. But is super confident in his cage, and loves coming to the bars for a sniff - he only climbed first few days (I think just exploring) and will sit with his little hands on the bars waiting for us to say hi.

I'm going to add some more sand today now I know it meets with his approval!

He sounds lovely :-) I'm sure his confidence with people will grow - he's still very young :-)

Look whats arrived!

it seems massive haha. its going on the cabinet behind (poor fish are getting evicted elsewhere!)

Have the new wheel ready - I'm hoping his new chamber home will arrive today and we can start getting it set up for him!

Exciting! Enjoy 🏡🥰

Thanks! Really hoping he likes it! He's such a curious guy so I hope he just sees it as more stuff to play on. I also bought a few new bits (a new big tube) so Ive put them in his old cage first in the hope they'll smell more of him??

Yes, he will scent mark his new things and that should help him settle in when he moves into the Plaza. It's in a nice place where he can get plenty of attention and interaction.

It is exciting 😊. It’s a good thing having the cage first as it pays to get everything set up before moving the hamster across. So you don’t need to start changing or adding things after he moves in - they need a period of stability after moving in 😊

Are you going to let him have a play in it the day before? With some substrate and one or two items? It can really help them settle quicker if they've already explored and scent marked it before moving in :-) If the house doesn't arrive (as I mentioned, delivery can be very slow!) then what you could do is put his old house in for now, in the location where the new house is to go. Then when the new house arrives, you just lift the old one out and pop the new one over the top of his nesting area and he'll rearrange inside himself.

With the house its weird it says was put for collection by Evri on Sat then seems to have stopped! Which is kind of why I'm holding fire to set it up - if it was a week or so away then yes I'd probably use the old one!

Annoyingly its a platform for the wheel too - worried it might sink into the substrate or he might bury beneath it without it? Although we can attach to bars too.

Yes hoping to give him a bit of a play Tuesday, but we do have family round so will see what time they go as want it to be nice and calm for him! I can just see him refusing to come back out though haha.

We've got lots of new bedding etc (will pop his current one on top though!) everything else will be the same aside from nest and wheel.

It's probably on its way then if Evri were collecting :)

Apparently tomorrow! He has messaged. So I'll hold off and hopefully put it all together - guessing another day or so wont hurt in the long run

If you can it would be good. A cage change can make them very skitty for a week or two. I find that's only a few days if they have explored the cage in advance of the move :-)

My other tip is - once you've moved them to the new cage, take the old cage out of the room completely! And clean around the area where the old cage was. Otherwise they can still smell it and it can upset them thinking their old home is still there.
