Just saw the cloud platform as well And he's sitting on it I bet he likes that. You could maybe try an 8" trixie plastic wheel or a 9" silent runner wheel. Both are semi enclosed which might make him feel more secure.
The 9" silent runner seems hard to find at the moment - I can only find this new, cream version. The price is quite high on Amazon due to import costs. Edit - the price seems to include the bar attachments which normally cost £7 on their own so the price is about right in that case. Tom's Pet creations used to be the best price but he doesn't have a website any more. I've contacted him though to see if he still sells them.
The trixie wheel is cheap and cheerful - it's not a silent wheel but they are usually pretty quiet. If it's standing on the substrate then you'd need to tie the stand to the bars to stabilise it, so it can't sink or fall over.
The silent runner wheels really are silent and spin very well and easily. They have the advantage of being able to be screwed to the bars instead of being on a stand.
There's a list of wheels here The ones for dwarf hamsters are further down the list. I've just removed the links for this wheel as they don't work any more.
Just to have an up to date guide for suitable Hamster wheels available in 2024. As I'm sure most people on here know already, a hamster needs to run with a straight back. If they run with a curved back they can develop pain and spinal problems. So a wheel diameter needs to be large enough for...
If you can afford it, I'd get the new cream 9" silent runner and attach it to the bars Then you don't have to worry about it being stable and I'm sure he'll love it.
It does look very nice in his cage and it's nice to see him sitting on it It's somewhere else to go and to sit under. I wonder if his circuits will settle down now.
How do you feed him? Does his mix go in a bowl? And do you give him a bit of fresh veg every day? I do tend to use a bowl or plate for the hamster mix and maybe scatter a tiny bit of it as well. Then I put the bit of veg (no bigger than his ear!) on a separate little dish on top of a shelf - ie a different location to where the hamster mix is. They then get in the habit of going to that place for the veg so it helps with a routine.
I always tend to give an "extra" daily - eg a couple of pumpkin seeds or other healthy treat - and have a separate location for that too. Just under the shelf might be a good location for that as that will create another routine for him. Once he has some clear routines he might stop running round in circles - fingers crossed!
I scatter a little bit of his food around the cage. I haven't given him fresh veg for a while. I do have some pumpkin seeds that I brought from a supermarket that he has. Along with mealworms
