Here is Ceviz (meaning walnut in turkish) and Limon (Lemon) down below! While Ceviz is a female bird with NO chill at all, Limon is her calm and loving bird hubby. Limon is usually chill but goes nuts when Ceviz goes nuts. She is being a bad example for other birds, but what can stop her really... So, I got Ceviz when she was a baby (not knowing she was a female) and after some time when she reached the adult state, she started constantly laying eggs by herself, while Limon was not with us at the time, and would go through a destructive depression after realizing her eggs were not going to hatch. And that's when we realized she needed a partner. I got Limon and introduced them. They got used to each other in no time and both are happy now, though Ceviz doesn't lay eggs as much as she used to. Now that they get along well; Ceviz goes on a mission to destroy everything she sees and Limon just follows her around, attempting to help her at times.

Aw they are beautiful. Such a lovely story that her partner is calm and helps her x

They are lovely :)

Out of curiosity, how do you stop them from having chicks when you have a male and female?

Thank you both! ❤
Daisy,
For those birds who mate, you may want to put them in seperate cages or buy a cage divider so they don't mate. Personally, mine don't mate even when in the same space. I was actually hoping for them to have chicks but I guess they need a little bit more time. 😞

I think some racing pigeon owners put porcelain egg substitutes into the nest if their birds lay and removed the eggs to keep the numbers down without upsetting the mother bird, who doesn't know the difference. 🪶

Hi! I just wanted to announce that my birds hatched an egg at last. I'm going to photograph the chick daily to follow its growth. This is what the little guy looked like in his first hours. 🥺

Aw, he's so beautiful. Little pink micro budgie taking his first breaths 🥰

Amazing :-). What birds are they please?

Aw baby budgie! Are they being good parents?

I'd say so! Here's the little guy on its fourth day, absolutely thriving. I think the other egg is going to hatch as well.
(I know the nest is dirty, but apparently cleaning the nest before the chick is at least two weeks old can be bad)

That is fascinating. How do the parents look after the new chick? Just feed it? Or do they nudge it around or sit on it?

His beak is so tiny perhaps he cannot cheep at this stage. No cosy feathers yet, not even one ❤️ 🦜 But soon he will be a handsome little bird!

How do baby birds feed at that size? I know nothing about this - budgie's aren't mammals. I assume the same way that other birds feed their young - putting food inside their mouths. Do they need special food at this age?

A bit of googling just told me the parents provide "crop milk" at first - a substance produced in their "crops".

If the second egg hatches, will you need to hand rear one of them if the parents can't cope with feeding two?

Yes, they sit on it until the chick gets fully feathered I think, which takes about a month. For the feeding, they need many nutrients like eggs, mint, fruit and veggies etc. If the female bird is too tired feeding many chicks, the male bird will help bring food to her to feed them and sometimes even sit on the chicks while the female budgie is outside. I often even see both of them sitting on the baby. Since my female bird has been taking care of infertile eggs so long before we got the male bird, I don't think it will be a problem for her also thinking about the fact that the male bird helps the female take care of the chicks. 😸

That must be lovely to see :-)
