Your bond with Clive is so beautiful. I remember how he always looked to you for comfort and you have always been able to reassure him.

Clive sounds very gentle and chilled in his old age. His skin thing can't be dietary as he gets linseeds doesn't he? It maybe some genetic condition.

Vet suspected cushings disease for quite a long time which is now progressing.

It's a difficult one to diagnose though. Some of the symptoms can be other things. As long as he's doing ok.

He had hairloss/regrowth since he was just under a year old which didn't matter but now he's showing symptoms that are of a more serious and progressive nature.
His skin is dry and flaky in parts, he has a scab, put on a lot of weight and looks pot bellied, drinks a lot but doesn't pee more than usually. He stops and stares sometimes, looks lost, gets tired more easily and appears to have reduced muscle strength.
He's enjoying his fresh food and out of cage time so he still has a good quality of life and doesn't appear to be in discomfort.
It may be cushings or it may be some other illness but i don't think it's just a natural ageing process.

It doesn't sound like natural ageing process, no. And it could be Cushings.

Tonight i looked at Clive and thought 'you poor little hamster' but then he run off to steal Lilly's hoard and i thought 'maybe not yet'.

Te, he, very funny Clive, feeling cheeky tonight 🤣

Lilly had left a hoard in a corner of the room this morning and Clive run straight to it to pouch it. He came back to me because he wanted home and was in a hurry to hide his loot inside his house.

Made me smile 😊

Do you think there is a bit of rivalry between Clive and Lilly?

Always has been. Lilly used to live next to Clive but i had to move her. Clive used to sit on his back shelf and chuck poops in Lilly's cage.

I think Clive is nearing the end of his life. He was out for his porridge this morning, ate his fresh food at his usual time but deteriorated rapidly as the evening went on. He is unsteady and very tired. I talked to him and stroked him and he looked at me but shook my hand off when i tried to pick him up. He just wants to be left alone and stay in his nest or sand jar now. He's not struggling but he's drifting.

I’m so sorry Beryl. I guess it’s one day at a time now. He may perk up again.

I just checked on him before i go to bed. He's curled up in his nest. It's where he wants to be. He's always loved his house.

I hope Clive has a peaceful night.

I’m so sorry Beryl, this is really hard for you but I’m glad Clive is comfortable & peaceful in the place that he loves & he knows how much he’s loved too.

I am so sorry to hear such sad news. I hope you still have more time together.
