My OH says he looks like his trousers are coming down which is quite an accurate description.

That really made me laugh! I don't think they ever get tired of free roaming - well not for a long time anyway - eventually they want their familiar cage. Our big free roamer was Newt whose sole purpose was to wait till I took my eye off him for half a second then he'd sneak in the opposite direction and try and get under the door into the kitchen. Which he achieved a few times! We blocked the gap under the door and he climbed over the cushions and still got under!

I think Clive made a draft excluder last night. His potty is in the left front corner opposite his house.
He had piled substrate on top of the potty and blocked off the whole corner but he needs to use his potty.
I just attached cardboard from the outside to keep drafts out. There's a corner shelf which was handy. See what he does.

Aw that is clever. I have seen hamsters do that before with potties - they sort of turn it into a cosy pile of substrate with a hole in the middle so they can go to the loo and still feel warm and cosy! Crawling into the hole.

Oh i see. I didn't know that. There was no need for the cardboard then. Oh well, he can pile it up again and the cardboard is easy to take off.

I cleaned the potty and didn't put the substrate back on because i misunderstood his actions.

I think the cardboard is still a good idea - it means he can pile up the substrate without it falling out of the cage and it’s also a very thoughtful draught excluder! I would leave it :)

I wouldn't worry about not putting the substrate back on - I've done that before not realising and they just put more back again :-) When they feel like it.

This morning, the substrate was back on the potty and a little path led from house to the potty so he's still using it.
How clever though, to make a heated toilet seat for himself.

My Sweetie has just been tamed but still nibble a bit. Thank ne thing I noticed, she doesn’t chew at all, doesn’t matter how many toys I give to her

I’ve usually found hamsters only chew things with food attached :) . Although there are exceptions who will chew anything except the healthy things!

Most hamsters seem to like the whimzees Beryl mentioned - they smell nice I think . They are vegetable based chew sticks shaped like toothbrushes or alligators. The toothbrushes are good because you can stick sunflower seeds in the bristles and the hamster has fun getting them out. You can usually buy them loose in pet shops. They are actually dog chews but the small size is good for hamsters (and the ingredients are fine for them). Normally you wouldn’t give dog things to a hamster. These are a bit of an exception.

I just linked them above :)

Thank you 😊
Yes but you can buy them single for 25p in some petshops like Jollys. Just look in the dog section. You don't need to buy a big bag off Amazon.
Hamsters often run off with a whimzee and hide them like a treasure.
Sometimes i hear them cluttering about in their houses or below substrate when they move or chew their whimzee.

Yep. I have six hamsters so always have a supply of whimzees.
