So today I've noticed that my syrian hamster, coco was pouching a lot of bedding and then spitting it back out in her sandbath? I was just wondering if this was normal behavior or if there was something to be concerned about.

My little girl covers her Sandbath in bedding. I empty it and as soon as she realises, she fills it again.
I wouldn't think it's anything to worry about, she's just making it her own

It sounds like she wants to make a nest in her sand bath! Or she was just rearranging the bedding and discarding it maybe.

ohh okay thank you everyone! I was worried that it was something to be concerned about!

It'll be interesting to find out what she's up to! They do do some funny things and like to organise their cages :-)

I have seen my little Henry make a little pillow with bedding to rest on. Is it warm where you're at? Coco could be making a comfy spot to cool down, sand is nice for that.

Good point ilguy - some hamsters like to nap in their sand baths :-)

despite the warm temperatures outside, my home is usually set to the same temperature if about 69-73 degrees. she does have a sand bath and a cool ceramic hide. I was also thinking of getting her a cooling plate. thank you !
