Dwarf hamster paradise

https://www.tiktok.com/@xxjassey also has a lovely setup for their Campbell's pair

a lot of the pairs/groups I've found have been from non english speaking countries. Attitudes about cohabiting seem to correlate with availability of pedigree lines of Campbell's. AFAIK the entirety of the US only has two breeders of pedigree Campbell's and there are very few in the UK too.

https://www.tiktok.com/@ladyblobsandco kept a large colony of pedigree campbells. They ones who are still alive are separated now for various reasons.
https://www.tiktok.com/@skittles.peanut Were a pair of winter whites who sadly crossed the rainbow bridge recently but lived their whole lives together
https://www.tiktok.com/@theacrew_hamsters had a pair of Campbells who lived together until one passed. The other took it super hard when she lost her bestie.
(Sorry this isn't a more cheery list, been a spate of the hamsters I've followed passing away recently...)
They seem to be short clips (in amongst a lot of other videos on different topics!). Surprisingly there are also levels in the cage. It seems to be suggesting that with a lot of forage/sprays and enrichment they don't fight. However in one video of her trio, one of the hamsters looks very small.

This one shows similar - large set up with masses of enrichment and sprays, despite levels. Campbells may be a bit different in this respect, but I would still be wary of levels.

short clips is the nature of Tiktok unfortunately. It seems like most people keeping pairs/groups tend to keep their posts to non-public groups. People can be vicious online and there are places where people will organise dogpiles on people doing things that they don't agree with...

Making sure they don't have to fight over resources is very key. Forage and sprays are a great way of making sure that one hamster can never defend a hoard and prevent the other one from getting access to food. I also saw the point made recently that a lot of hamster food mixes are quite low in protein and hamsters tend to cannibalise when they're protein deficient (a common reason why mums will consume their babies). Making sure their diet is up to scratch is very important (of course, we should be doing that for all hamsters anyway).

If you mean the white and black one of the lady blobs, she gradually declanned from other other two and started sleeping separately. A couple of superficial nips were spotted on her rear end so she was separated as a precaution. It was quite sad that really soon after that, the one that had picked on her a little bit passed away and so the other two, who had always got on just fine, ended up having to live separately. The third one was super depressed for a while and reintros were considered, but she started doing better so they're staying separated.

That doesn't sound good actually. It sounds like the smaller one was bullied.

Yeah, but only briefly due to an attentive owner. They were all pretty old by this point and had a very long time happily together. Hamsters do naturally vary in size so the white and black one may have always just been smaller.

The second link - the Campbells group - seemed more positive.

Do you know if they are hybrid's or pedigree winter whites?
I saved them from the pet store so there probably a hybrid , I know it would of been better to adopt and such but they didn't look happy when i saw them there was 4 including ama &ami and they perked up so to speak when they saw me .

It sounds like they chose you :)

I really love the names Amari and Amiya. What was the inspiration behind the names?😀
I was doing research on arabic and found amari which means commander and princess . Then went on a quest to find another name to match since there siblings and found amiya that means the same thing but also nectar and delightful .

yes and there my precious lil hams that I want to give the best life too . Hopefully together as a pair .
May i ask why you want to keep them as a pair?

I've been to a petshop recently and saw two dwarf hybrids in a tank. They had been returned and the petshop tried to sell them as a pair. They were fighting already even though they lived in a tiny, bare tank and had nothing to get territorial about.

It's none of my business how you keep your hamsters but please keep in mind that you may be constantly worrying about them when you're not there.
I know that i would. Not that i would ever keep a pair. I'd rather know that they can't come to any harm. Not if i can help it anyway.

when i got them they were snuggling together away from the other 2 hamsters in the cage when they saw me they perked up together and came over to were i was that's when i new i wanted try it and see if it would work, to me it's clear that they have a strong bond between each other before i came into the picture to save them from that cramped prison , the research iv'e been doing says it's possible, Iv'e been wanting to try it for a VERY long time and i got the cameras to monitor them @ night . Yes , i know they can turn on each other at any moment but I would still like to at least try since i have the resources. I'm currently doing more research and writing it down in my hammy book as i call it . I already have a second cage on standby if it goes south .

I think it's understandable to want to try and keep a pair with the right environment - I have also wanted to do that at times. It is not an easy thing and it's usually inexperienced owners who don't set things up right that have issues - but - as you say - you're prepared if it doesn't work out. I can also understand when someone says they wouldn't even try it.

It's a sensitive topic and those who feel it can work tend to be in a minority.

I think the reason for that is that the consequence of it not working out could be a maimed or dead hamster which would be entirely the human's fault.

The are alternatives for people who wish to keep a pair of rodents like a bonded pair of gerbils, guinea pigs etc.

I've said enough now and i do apologise to Geminidevries, should i have in any way upset or offended you.

no your okay dokey you didn't offend or upset me in ANYWAY ( i work @ a liquor store ) , I thank you and everyone for there opinions and insight on the matter and greatly appreciate it . I have plan A - Z with numbers in between to make sure the hams live there best lives . As soon as i see signs of bullying which i haven't seen i'll separate them on the spot . I won't let ANYTHING happen to my hams like that you have my word on that .

I knew Amiya was an Arabic name but felt Amari may be of Indian origin. Such beautiful names. :)

I don't have anything to add on pairing, but I will say that I got wheels for our current cage and I am so happy I did! Of course, whether or not that is helpful depends on many details, but we keep our cage on the floor, and based on our room space, there are a number of times where I've wanted to slide the cage a few inches this way or that, and I've really liked having the wheels.
