Aww hello Eddie 😍

Really good new that he’s drinking a normal amount.
How’s his scent gland now?

That's what his food bowl area looks like in the morning where he sits and munches his seeds. I don't think i've ever seen him pouch food but he must do because he keeps a small supply in his house.

I tried to clean it again this morning but its still much the same. Eddie is very fluffy so it's not easy to get to but i will keep trying. Like all hamsters they don't like us interfering and wriggle.

Hello Eddie, I wish I could give you a hug 🤗💕

Good to hear Eddies water intake is within the right range. Its nice that he’ll sit and nibble his food and seeds rather than pouch and run, he’s a cutee.

I'm going to see the hamster vet with Otto tomorrow and they're fine with me bringing Eddie along as well to get his scent gland checked.

Eddie saw my regular vet who examined him. His scent gland isn't too bad. It's not infected but a little crusty which isn't abnormal in a male dwarf. I'm going to clean it daily with warm water and a tiny amount of hibiscrub added to the water.

He had full pouches and had full pouches this morning so need to keep an eye out to see if he empties them.

Glad to hear Eddie’s ok & no infection.

He’ll probably empty those pouches once he’s settled down after the vet.

That is very good to hear. I hope Eddie is okay with you cleaning his scent gland.

Eddie's very laid back and didn't wriggle much or try to bite the vet.

He did give me a what the f...? look though.

Glad Eddie is ok. I would have loved to have seen Eddie's what the f... look 🤣

Bless him, that expression made me laugh. Pleased it’s not infected, what a good boy, well done Eddie 😊

Good Eddie has had a checkover too and was laid back, if surprised by it! Did the vet say hibiscrub was ok for hamsters? I'd have thought it might be a bit strong. Wouldn't saline do it? Or Thyme tea?

That's what she prescribed but diluted of course in warm water. I only use a tiny amount and pad him dry. It acts like an antiseptic but his scent gland isn't too bad.

Must be ok then. Vets are more pro antiseptics than owners I think :)

It's prescribed once a day for seven days but i'll use my own judgement on that and may continue with plain warm water if it doesn't look too bad. I'm not keen on saline and find that too strong which may be silly and down to my own dislike of salt.
