We recently did allergy testing on Effie to try and solve the mystery of her itchy scabbyness as the steriod injections werent really working for her. Well it turns out she's allergic to pretty much everything food wise and she is not happy about that!
She's been started on medication (apoquel) and royal canin anallergenic food. But she is being a pain! She's the cleverest cat at eating around meds no matter how much they're crushed and switching to the new diet is not going well at all! Poor baby really doesn't like it 😢 two things she isn't allergic too are milk and eggs. While not the healthiest for cats I'm currently having to mix the food and meds into a pate with milk! She sees the vet again on the 30th to check how she's doing etc and go through her results in more detail. Fingers crossed she takes to the new diet soon!

For anyone curious- these are the results. Anything with a number next to it indicates a reaction unfortunately 😞

I am glad we've done the tests and we know how to treat her now but feel bad for her with all those reactions and her disliking the new food! I'm super glad we have lifetime pet insurance for her too! We've only had to pay the £80 excess and petplan have paid £800 for her so far this year! I so so wish lifetime insurance for small animals was a thing as I would have everyone insured!

Oh goodness, that is a lot of allergies. Wheat, rice and milk seem ok. Will she have to have a pellet diet? I didn't know you could get testing like this. OH had a dog that had terrible problems and kept losing weight and the vets just said - try the turkey and rice formula or salmon and rice. But as results like this show, they can be allergic to those too. We went onto a raw food diet with him. Just frozen meat basically. That worked at first then he had a setback again.

Unfortunately yes she'll have to stay on the anallergenic which only comes in dry food and is super expensive (insurance doesn't cover prescription diets unfortunately) and shes really not a fan 😞 milk isn't the best for cats but as she's not allergic I've been using goats milk to get food and meds into her. I didn't know either I jokingly said to the vet that I wished we could find out what she was allergic too and she said actually we can! After the steroid injection only calmed her skin for a few days I decided to go ahead with the bloods etc since she was insured and it allowed us to try and figure it out. It is super expensive without insurance but definitely really interesting and good to know! I am really lucky with my vets though they really know their stuff with all my animals! It's a bit of a pain for a cat to be allergic to meat since they're obligate carnivores 😞 I'm hoping she adjusts soon bless her 🥰

We also had a dog in the past that couldn't tolerate anything except dry pellet food with some hot water. She did fine on it though. The main thing is they get the nutrition. Is she a hunter at all? ie birds, voles etc? That might be an issue I guess. Although they tend not to actually eat them I think.

She unfortunately is a hunter (mice/birds/ she's actually taken a whole pigeon down and gutted it before 😷) I've got her a collar that says do not feed and a tag which says vet diet only do not feed ordered to try and discourage others from feeding her but collars with bells etc seem to do nothing to help the hunting 😔

Aw, poor little girl. That is a lot of things to be allergic to and she will be confused as to why she cannot have her favourite foods any more. I hope she adjusts to her new diet. Goats milk is a great idea.

My dog had lots of food allergies too. Fortunately he was ok with fish, so he was on a fish based kibble. I did buy the freeze dried fishy cat treats for him as they were cheaper than the dog ones! He had apoquel too as he had itchy ears! Bless him!

Bless your doggy! I've had a cat with allergies previously (my babybelle) but steroid tablets and hypoallergenic food kept them at bay bless her. Effie however has so many allergies it seems much harder to manage!
