Gardens and wildlife

Been out for a walk and was near the Thames at a different point and some distance from usual and saw the following families close to each other
The Egyptian geese had 4 babies as far as I could see as they were all huddled up together.
The Canada geese had 3 goslings

It must be special watching the robin family :-) Elusive it's great the bees have woken up! Assume these are your bees? I'd love to see a little cloud of bees! Any photos?

Definitely hearing birds in the early mornings here - not sure which ones yet as I'm usually half asleep!

Posted at the same time Coco - lovely photos of the Geese and babies :-)

Yes they are my bees Maz, I’ll have to try & get a video as they’re constantly on the move so a photo would be a big blur!
Still only a fairly small proportion have woken up so far I think & it’s really cold this morning so there won’t be much activity for a while.

Cafe Robin is still open and doing great business. Even when I try to close up in the evening I sometimes have to re open even as light is fading.
Today the juveniles are both feeding well. Two sparrows have discovered Cafe Robin and fly down too. Surprisingly the adult robins seem to defer to them and look to me. So if I open the door, the sparrows will fly off but the robins don’t, so they come back to the food at once.

Good to hear the little ones are doing well.
Sounds like you’ve cracked it with the sparrows, they are very aggressive towards other birds & will even take food as an adult passes it to a fledgling.
Robins do have a long day! They have better sight in low light than most birds & will still be around when others have gone off to roost.
It seems to get later every day at this time of year, I go out around nine or just after to clean up & the robin is still around then & often still singing when I’ve finished & come back inside.

I didn't realise sparrows could be aggressive :) I'm loving hearing about the robin family.

Here is Cafe Robin a few minutes ago. So hard to capture!

The first shows him waiting for the food and the second is a moment later.
She was there too but had flown off.
The juveniles are often on a bonsai just behind.

I have a pair of robins too who frequent the garden. I’m not quite sure where they are nesting (not in my garden), but they come in to mine looking for food and nesting materials. I’ve just watched one of them dig up a worm from the lawn :) I haven’t seen any juveniles yet…will have to keep an eye out for them!

Cafe Robin is still doing a brisk trade. Today both adults and two juveniles have come altogether. One juvenile is solely fed by a parent but comes closer for this. The other sometimes comes down beside the parent on the ground. It is fed there but I have seen it remain behind and carry on picking up pieces of food by itself.

It’s going to be so lovely to watch the babies growing up!

Well I still haven't seen any of our lambs, as we're both still sick indoors! And there have thankfully been no issues, so the lambs are all in the fields further away. They are born in the fields and only end up in the barn nearer the house if there is a medical issue. Someone else is doing the lambing and checking them. Any very sick lambs come in the house to be warmed up in a box and tube fed. So far no sick lambs thankfully. Enough sickies in the house already!

But our neighbour has some lambs I could see through the window - so took this photo through the window. Twins with their Mother.

The front garden daffodils. after eventually coming out, have had a real battering with the weather! They are ok but looking a bit raggy already.

They are cute little white lambs. I forget what breed. Ours have black faces and are quite leggy and have mini horns :-) Different breed.

It is :-) It would be better if it was a nice big picture window, but it's quite small!
