Gardens and wildlife

What a great thread. I'm lucky I live in a semi rural area. We get lots of birds in the garden. Not much other wildlife though as we have a fence because we have a small dog.

First for me the other day I saw a nuthatch visiting the feeders which is quite rare in Scotland. I tried to get a picture but it was too far away and I only had my phone at the time. I will need to try and wait with my camera to try and get a better picture. Anyway here are some bird pictures from my garden including a very blurry nuthatch 🤣

The pictures other than the nuthatch were from my camera. FB_IMG_1680035721637.jpgFB_IMG_1680035705654.jpgIMG_20231116_124807484.jpgScreenshot_20230620_101204_com.android.gallery3d.jpgIMG_20231116_124803628~2.jpg

I have not even heard of a nuthatch! Thank you for sharing these lovely pictures. :)

The holly bush sounds special Loveliness :-). Great photos Wren! I tried photographing some birds last year thinking I had a variety and most of them turned out to be sparrows lol - plus one starling. I will keep a look out for robins.

I’ve heard of nuthatches but not sure if I’ve seen one before.

It is lovely watching them isn't it? I used to have bird feeders in the garden at my previous house and loved watching them through the window. Strangely, now we're more rural we see less birds - or less garden birds. Maybe more for them to eat from hedgerows round here.

That looks really beautiful! I love to see the bare trees against the snow.
I thought we might get some yesterday but we just got freezing rain instead! Sunshine now but very cold.

But rather treacherous! Car had to be left on the side of the road as it couldn't get up the narrow lane.

It's a nice feeling though. I think there's a calm feeling in the air when it's snowed and cold outside and you feel cosy inside. But yes it can be a pain when you need to get somewhere. Thankfully the gritters have been out on the roads.

Snowing heavily here again. The small road to our house was iced over last night. Defrosted this morning but now it's covered in snow and will probably freeze again tonight. It was minus 6 last night! Freezing!
