Gardens and wildlife

Lovely! Especially the primroses - are they wild ones? It's not quite spring where we are unfortunately - always comes a bit later here :) The daffodil green shoots are out though. Snowdrops are still out.
The primroses have just appeared in my garden the last few years…they may have come from next door. I get lots of birds and squirrels in the garden which may have brought them in. I have some bluebells too which are shooting up…also brought in from elsewhere.

Spring seems to be quite early here this year. It’s been a really mild winter though. Most of the trees round the village are in blossom now! They don’t normally flower as early as February.

Lovely to see all the spring flowers.
I’m not sure what season it is & I don’t think the plants are either!

The primroses could be primulas, I have some that were here when I moved in & they’re constantly invading other gardens, the primroses don’t seem to spread so easily.

Your photos do give the joy of spring - it reminds me of a poem by ee cummings which I've always liked :-) I love "mud-luscious" and "puddle-wonderful"!

in Just-
spring when the world is mud-
luscious the little
lame balloonman

whistles far and wee

and eddieandbill come
running from marbles and
piracies and it's
spring

when the world is puddle-wonderful

the queer
old balloonman whistles
far and wee
and bettyandisbel come dancing

from hop-scotch and jump-rope and

it's
spring
and

the

goat-footed

balloonMan whistles
far
and
wee

Yes, they could easily be primulas

They might be wild primroses though. I remember staying in Cornwall once, where spring came earlier, and a garden nearby backed onto a bank similar to the one in your photo and it was covered in wild primroses. It was beautiful. I have planted wild primroses in the back garden but they don't really seem to spread - on the other hand our garden gets lots of ground elder weed which chokes things off unfortunately.

Another rainy day gardening indoors!
I got some lovely wood yesterday so I cleaned out an old dome terrarium & have been planting it up again today.
It’s not finished yet but I’m happy with it so far.
Couldn’t get decent photos so did a video instead, it’s a bit jerky, I’m getting a new turntable on Friday which might help!

I finally spotted some daffodils in the garden today too, lovely glow in the downpour

That's amazing! And very creative :-) The wood looks great. I especially like the piece with a kind of cubby hole in one side - you can just imagine a little creature living in there and popping out! What plants are they?

I have daffodil green shoots in the garden but no daffodils yet.

Very attractive, a tiny piece of forest!

Thank you both 😊

Maz I can imagine a little creature living in there too, there are all sorts of little holes & cavities where something might be living, I’ll have to keep watch & see!
You probably won’t know the plants but here goes
Christmas moss/ Vesicularia montagnei
Micranthemum Monte Carlo
Selaginella uncinata (possibly my favourite plant, can become quite iridescent in the right light)
Oak leaf creeping fig
Bolbitis heteroclita 'Difformis (looks like a little fern)
Cushion moss

No I didn't know any of them ha ha. Assume they are all specialised plants for growing in that way.

That is just fascinating to look at and so creative too.
What a wonderful alternative method of gardening which I will have to keep in mind.

Thank you Coco 😊

Maz some of those are aquarium plants usually grown underwater, the creeping fig is a tropical plant that can get quite big in the wild & the Selaginella can be grown in the garden with the right conditions & gets quite big too, club moss is the stuff you find growing anywhere damp so it’s more a case of plants manipulated to grow that way!
