Gender?

I can't quite tell from the photos :-) Sometimes it's hard to see how close the front and rear holes are. Can you see any nipples under the fur? A line of them at each side.

This site has really good photos and diagrams to compare with so you might be able to tell from that. My guess, looking at the second photo, is that he is a boy :-) If that is his little male part about half a centimetre above the end hole. Assuming there are no nipples. But it's really hard to tell from the photo! Also can you see his scent gland in the middle of his tummy? That tends to be more yellow on a boy.

Thank you so much for the answer! I don’t want to stress them out too much right now as I truly just took the pic as I placed them to their cage from the carrier when getting home, I’ll try to get better pictures in a few days after they’ve settled :) I have searched for all the pictures but still struggled when trying to make somthing out of it haha! Nothing yellow yet though, was the first thing I checked. All my boy hamsters before this one have been so clearly boy that’s why I’m a bit confused with this one. Obviously still a little baby too though 😌

Do you have more than one then? Unfortunately pet shops do tend to still sell pairs, and it's better that they live alone then or they can start fighting and it lead to injuries or bullying. Assume that's also why you need to sex them correctly to avoid any pregnancies!

No, only one, just used they/them as I’m not sure on whether it’s a he or a she :) I’ve had hamsters before just not any in 4 years so super excited, definitely my favourite pet to own! But yes absolutely all the research has been done, even with my earlier ones but reread everything and all the new info as well before bringing this one home! :) Mostly want to know the gender right now instead of waiting for it to become obvious just to name them haha doesn’t matter either way!

Maybe check in a couple of weeks and see if anything seems more obvious - as you say - still a baby. I’m thinking boy but I may be wrong! 😊

The telling thing may be if there are any nipples or not - nipple lines down each side. Somtimes they are clear, sometimes not. On the second photo, his back end maybe does look a bit more elongated (suggesting testicles) but it's hard to tell. Without knowing if there are nipples lines, it's hard to tell from that vieiw, but I suspect boy still :-)
