I just got a new hamster and he runs on his wheel, drinks water, sleeps, but won't eat. Ive seen him eat about once and eat almost nothing. What should I do?

Hello again :-) Honestly I wouldn't worry too much. Does he seem active and healthy? You often don't see them eat because they tend to just eat food from their hoards. He is maybe taking some of the food at night to his hoard and will be snacking from that as and when he wants. It can also take very young hamsters some time to develop pouching habits. One of my syrians never seemed to touch his food but he did have a hoard and was perfectly healthy and active. It was only after his first spot clean (when I had to remove some hoard because he'd pee'd on it) that he got quite anxious about food and started pouching all food as soon as it was put out. Which wasn't necessarily a good thing because he was anxious about food! If your little boy seems happy and active, he will be fine - and has no anxieties about food. He will be eating if he's hungry.

Do you give him a piece of fresh veg every day? They love that and they usually eat that straight away - that might reassure you. Just a tiny bit - no bigger than his ear. Eg a small cube of cucumber, a tiny broccoli floret.
