I bought one of these hemp mats for Nibbles playpen. When it arrived I wasn’t sure if he would like it but it turns out he loves it. They are easy to clean and don’t smell. I think they are a great alternative to put in they playpen and are natural and not easy to destroy when hamsters start chewing or burrowing. Nibbles doesn’t try to get out of the playpen like he did before I had the mat. He’s very happy in there.

I've never cleaned them :-) I used to put them on platforms and house roofs in the winter for some insulation, and also to cushion any fall onto them. So I would cut a piece from the large one. If it got messed up I would just replace it with a new piece. How have you been cleaning them please?

Rodipet sold the best ones and some were very large, to fit a 120cm enclosure. It is such a shame they are no longer available.

That's what I did too :-) Just shake it out! If it had been pee'd on I would either replace it or cut out a section and just replace that section.

That is a very useful link/site. I haven't seen that before. I wonder if they ship to the Uk. Zooplus sell the Hugro ones, and they are ok (although not as good as the rodipet ones) but any others I've tried have been terrible and shed too much/fall apart easily.

I didn’t check to see if they ship to the UK, but most shops do. They have nice things there. That’s where I bought the granite slate.

If anyone wants to look at that site in English, just type Nagerteppich.de into a google search. The site comes up at the top of a google search with a "Translate this page" option next to it. Click on translate this page and it opens the site in English.

It seems they mainly sell hemp mats and bedding and coco mats/beddings. I looked under accessories and saw the granite slab and it's quite large - 30cm x 30cm, which is good value! I've only ever had 15cm x 15cm ones - which are good for going under a water bottle. Is it smooth granite or rough granite?

It’s very smooth. Mine is at the tiler he’s cutting it in half so I will have two, he will also file the cut smoothly 😅 it was too big

It’s very good for a cooling spot in hot weather, that’s what I bought it to use for
