Henry

Henry is still going! He's been extra sleepy this week, a few days without adventures. His back and hips are still giving him minor trouble, but he's getting around fine & using his wheel. Taking his metacam voluntarily everyday, no refusals.

He's really showing his age tonight, comparing hamster to human years he would be 93 in our terms. The last of this batch of cream, one happy tired old man talking up a storm.

I found out at the end he's back on a pumpkin kick, was able to set up the forage board with some in time. He somehow had a tumble and got stuck on his back for a bit. Still have to get all clean after a big adventure.

He's amazing :-)
I love him so much. I was getting pretty worried the past few days with how low his activity was, but tonight he just whips out young ham energy. Just can't count him out. You can also see his old man waddle a bit, doesn't stop him though.

I made him a tiny flatbread with some mozzarella and a bit of parmesan. He gave it a little wrestle before some snuggles. Henry also demanded more cream after returning, I couldn't figure out why he was on his castle trying to get my attention. Made a quick run to the store to pick some up, he was sated after  I'm going to try a new batch of softer food tomorrow, glad as I am he will eat one thing at all.

Henry is starting to have difficulty with some tasks, today he slid back down the castle when trying to get up it. I was able to get him to eat some seeds if I opened the shell a bit and let him open the rest. He's still as obstinate and determined as ever, doesn't like it when I give treats directly. He wants to find them on his own, but cream is the one exception. That's always a stop everything and enjoy moment.

Didn't have any luck with the different baby foods I tried, also no go on different kinds of porridge. My building is getting new roofing, it's been very noisy. I moved the play area back to my room, he remembered where everything used to be. He stopped and looked right at me when he noticed the right ramp doesn't belong there

Aw that's a shame - maybe the Castle is too big a job for him at his age now. He seems to have managed well in his playpen :-)

He doesn't have a playpen, it was always the living room sectioned off. He's gotten back up on it again a couple times, will keep an eye on it. Poor little guy, he's so determined and his body isn't up to young ham specs

He's also a bit mad at me, I ended tonight's adventure early due to a miscue and he refused to stop pawing at the bin until he got the taxi back.

Sharp as a tack still. Sorry that his mobility is a bit down. It's hard to see them struggle with things they used to do easily. I'm glad he enjoyed his cream ❤ I hope the noise goes down 🙏

It's unfortunately even more down today, he had a mini fall from sitting when out and about. His hips and one spot in his back are troubling him. He's still getting around and able to clean himself thankfully. He does still use his wheel, was on it a lot last night.

On the plus side, he's still motivated as ever and got up early to demand an adventure. Seems to be on winter time now! The slightly opened sunflower seeds are a big hit, we did a scavenger hunt in my room. I had to help him find a few, he is effectively blind so some noises and rustling of the carpet guided him. He was all set to do another round, then decided he was all done.

He was pretty talkative and seemed to enjoy it. I only caught the end:

Yes they can zip around on the flat when older but have mobility problems with climbing. Maybe it's time to level things in his enclosure a bit? You could always push the castle right down into the bedding so only the top bit shows, then he might be able to manage to climb up that short step and still have the pleasure of sitting on it :-)

I wish Maz, it's unfortunately when he's just on the floor too. My writing was confusing, he fell down from just sitting on the floor :( I was able to hold him for a check and no resurgence of the tumor at least.

I got him to give a mini almond flour flatbread a go, he is still very determined. He had another adventure last night for almost 2 hours.
