Higgins

I don't know if you remember, but Pip used to do this with teaspoons as well :-) But he was a robo - not had a Syrian do it before - so yes maybe he has been reading Blossom's thread :-) I really miss having a robo actually and have to curb myself as two hamsters is all I can manage! I like having two Syrians as well but always found a Syrian and a Robo to be the best combination due to different needs at different times.

It’s really made me smile to read that Higgins likes his spoons as much as Pip, will wait to hear about where they eventually turn up. I also adore the photo where he’s coming out of the Pringle tube and the stretch out of the carrot house is a clear winner as well, super cute! He’s gorgeous 😊

Aw thanks Zara. Well a bit of teaspoon news. They both had scrambled egg again last night. I expected a third teaspoon to go missing in Higgins cage :ROFLMAO: . But this morning, the teaspoon was still there in Higgins cage. So either two teaspoons is enough for any hamster, or, what I think happened, was Higgins came out to eat the scrambled egg as soon as he smelled it, while I'd gone back into the kitchen - and when I came back to his cage with the veg, he heard me coming, grabbed the scrambled egg quickly (or pouched it) and shot back into his house. Because most of the egg was gone from the teaspoon when I came back and just a tiny bit left. :-)

Higgins was in the playpen last night. I put a few Christmas things in there to get a photo of him for the photo comp :-) I didn't take many though as he didn't like the clicking noise the camera made, so I stopped. I used my proper camera so I could sit further away from him - never could work out how to turn the sound off! He accepts being picked up and stroked which is nice, but generally he seems a bit overwhelmed by the space in the playpen (both times) - he seemed happier in the bathtub so I'll carry on with the bathtub for a while now.

When I put Higgins in the playpen, Tino came out to the cage door and looked like he wanted to come out! Sort of - hey who is in my playpen?!!

So - Higgins water bowl has disappeared 🤣 I refill it every other day. I checked two nights ago to make sure there was still enough water in it and there was. The following night when I went to get it to refill it, it wasn't there. I thought he must have knocked it off the shelf so I had a feel around at the back of the cage in the shelf area but couldn't find it. While doing this, Higgins stuck his head out of his house door to see what was going on. So I stopped rummaging and talked to him. He sat there for quite some time looking at me while I talked to him - which is progress!

I have spare ones of the Ikea Glasig tea lights used as water bowls, so got another one and filled that and put that in the cage.

But strange the first one appears to have disappeared! I definitely didn't take it out of the cage. And it can't have fallen very far. Higgins is due a spot clean anyway so I'll have a better look when he's out of the cage.

Haha cheeky Higgins. I love how hamsters steal stuff, you have to wonder what his plan is, I mean what could he possibly want it for?

Brilliant! Look forward to finding out where it is hidden 🤔 maybe he’s taken it away to use as a plate for his dinner 😃

One teaspoon and a bowl missing now 🤣. I found one of the teaspoon partly buried in front of the wheel.

It’s very odd as the substrate wasn’t damp anywhere near or under the shelf and it can’t have gone far - unless he’s buried it.

There was one night I took it out to fill it while he was out in the cage and he seemed a bit miffed about that and wouldn’t use it afterwards and used his bottle instead - but he had got back to using it again before it disappeared.

OH has been feeding the hamsters for the last couple of nights as I had to have a rest upstairs. Tonight Higgins did a little poop in his water bowl straight after OH had changed the water! I wonder what this means 🤣 A protest maybe? So OH cleaned the bowl out and changed the water again - see what happens!

Yes maybe. No I’m ok - did overdo things a bit the other day though so pacing myself 😊

It involved getting the legs off a coffee table and getting it into the loft 🤣 . OH did most of it, but it didn't all go to plan. Done now. All about tidying up before Christmas. We don't use it now as have side tables instead, between two chairs. It was too good to get rid off (although I wish I'd just sold it now ha ha).

It's worth it if you have storage space, you are bound to want it again one day 🪑🛋️

Yes and it was a good solid table. It wasn't expensive but it's sometimes hard to find something solid and the right size.
