My russian dwarf hamsters will be moving to the bedroom next week due to practical reasons, but i worry about temperature.

The thermostate is in the livingroom, and i have it on 20-21 C degrees during the day,and 19 degrees C during the night.

It doesn't get that warm in the bedroom.

it is a bit chilly in yhe bedroom, but not too cold i think. it has central heating, but it doesn't warm up once the living room is at the set temperature.

the have lots of bedding and warm nesting materials. how do i know if they are warm enough there?

should i use extra heating? with the high electricity bills i hope it is not needed.

It can be colder upstairs sometimes. Have you got a room thermometer? That helps keep an eye on things. Personally I do use an oil filled radiator overnight, on a timer, to make sure it doesn't get too cold in freezing weather. I set it to come on for a couple of hours in the middle of the night. It has a thermostat as well so I set that to 16 degrees - then it only comes on if it gets below 16 degrees.

Insulating cages does help as well but if it's really cold then the room temperature does need to be a certain level.

I also have an electric clothes drier which is very cheap to run and I leave on overnight to dry the washing - if that was in the same room as hamsters, that would help. Mine isn't at the moment!

The both are in a tank, zo no drafts.
I don't have a room thermometer, will see of i can get one to check on temperature.
