It is a lovely picture I've found most of my Syrians get up later in winter too. ie the earlier it gets darker, the later they get up. I'm not sure why.

It does seem to be a Syrian thing & seems a bit strange getting up later when it gets dark earlier, mine mostly get up earlier.

Yes they are fine I would freeze it first though and might not use the hay myself. If you do use it, you'd want to freeze the hay as well.
