Jas, the hamster formally known as Jasper

I’d love to know what goes through their minds when they choose just the right place for something special!
Lovely to see Jas, they always seem to know when we have a photo shoot in mind!

I think Jas has decided that the season has changed, she is getting up much earlier in the evening, I think it's because she goes to sleep earlier, as the sun is rising earlier?
What I have noticed that I wasn't aware of, didn't really consider, is that she doesn't go into heat every four days now. I've done a bit of research, which isn't easy and I think girls tend to stop going into heat at just over a year old. There are some days when she does show some of her previous traits, lot's of energy and chewing everything, but it's calmer.
Having a little bit of treat earlier.

It's actually a treat I got a while a go, which she has a bit of then I put away.
It's a festive fruit tree, parsley, millet, apple, coconut

That is something that hadn't occurred to me - that the reason they start getting up earlier is because they go to sleep earlier with the lighter mornings :-) That could well be it. I always assumed it was just something to do with the lighter evenings - except that didn't make sense. So really it's about the longer days then.

That's also very interesting about the heats perhaps coming to an end at a certain age. That makes sense, as 1 year old is the equivalent to middle age in humans. It's not something I'd heard of before though.

She looks to be really enjoying her treat :-)

That’s a lovely photo of Jas enjoying her treat.

It does make sense that they would come into heat less often & then stop as they get older but it isn’t something I know much about, I don’t really know that much about Syrians anyway!
I’ve only had one female Russian & she seemed to continue throughout her life, no idea with my Chinese they never show obvious signs like other species.

Had a very sociable little girl tonight, even though she was up early, 6:30. We had a little cleaning session, she would kick the unacceptable bedding out and I would remove and replace, obviously with Jas organising it to the right place, as I just wasn't getting it right. Then we has a bit of playtime. And even after, she was coming to see me in her cage and giving whisker kisses. I'm very privileged today.

Aw she's a clever girl helping sort her bedding out :-) And very special to have whisker kisses! She's looking well. Hello beautiful Jas!

That’s just so adorable 😍
I can just imagine her supervising the clean up!

Jas has been a bit chewy, the last few days, so she had one of her chew treat toys in the playpen today, apparently she needed the whole chew!

And even that wasn't enough, please just a little bit from this one☺️

But of course she did! :ROFLMAO: She's so gorgeous and looking very well :) Lovely to see Jas.

Thought it was about time for a Jas update. Last week I had to clean her burrows, it doesn't happen too often, as she is very clean where she nests, but it had to be done. Surprisingly the next night, when I was expecting her to stay in (that's what she would usually do, probably thinking, how can I leave, you can't be trusted ;)), she wanted to come out to play. I thought I might have got away with it this time.
A few days later, while she was out playing, I gave her a bit of free roam. She had been really sweet, wanting to be stroked and interacting, so I thought I'd try. She was really good, she started on my lap and worked out that if she reached the end of my legs, I couldn't really stop her and it was close to the ground. She hopped off, happy that she had escaped, looked at me, then bless her, just turned right round and crawled just under the cover of my leg. When I blocked the path with my hand, she just accepted it and went another way. She had a nice wander, took a treat, had some strokes and didn't chew anything. I was proud of her.
I just did the playpen the next day, but the day after, I thought I would try again. She was good, didn't try to jump off straight away, but then I think she remembered last time and walked down my legs and when she got to my ankles, she started digging at my jeans, as if to say, let me out! She was a bit more reserved this time, but it was earlier, so lighter. She tried to chew a book covering a corner, but stopped when I said no. Then tried to escape, by chewing the skirting board, so I had to intervene. She didn't try to bite me or anything, so I thought she wasn't enjoying it and gave her the safety of the playpen again.
Fast forward to yesterday, time for a bit of a clean, she had peed on her hoard and has moved her nest. So turns out I didn't get away with cleaning her burrows last week. Had to remove quite a bit, which I know she won't like, then to add insult to injury, I'd accidentally removed a Whimzee. I did give the Whimzee back, which she was happy about and gave some whisker kisses for. Who knows what price I will be paying for removing some of the hoard and the Whimzee?

She is such a wonderful little character :-) It's lovely how she interacts with you as well. This is a bit similar to Raffy maybe, who seems to have moved his pee spot since I did a clean! Whisker kisses must show appreciation over the Whimzee though!

I think they appreciate the clean, but then think, I know what will fool them, I'll move my spot:D
The Whimzee was funny, I felt really bad and tried to sneak it back in, but she caught me, so I gave it to her and she was a bit confused, but then very pleased. You might even say happy surprise ;)

Yes it’s strange that like it/don’t like it thing over cleaning :). I suppose it’s understandable. If I came home and found the house immaculately clean I’d have mixed feelings! Ooh it’s great and who the heck has been messing in here and what have they done and where have they put things 🤣
