I'm choosing between these four beddings:

Kaytee Clean & Cozy White Bedding - https://www.petsmart.ca/small-pet/litte ... hod=Browse
Kaytee Clean & Cozy Natural Bedding - https://www.petsmart.ca/small-pet/litte ... hod=Browse
Carefresh White Bedding - https://www.petsmart.ca/small-pet/litte ... hod=Browse
Carefresh Natural Bedding - https://www.petsmart.ca/small-pet/litte ... hod=Browse

I know they are pretty much the same but was wondering if there are any big differences between them? Such as:

1. Do any of them have any harmful additives? Harmful chemicals, dyes, scents, etc?
2. Do the white ones contain beach vs the "natural" brown ones?
3. Which one is best for burrowing?

I'd say the first two are better - depending on whether you prefer the white or natural colour. The Kaytee Clean n Cozy is very popular on here and, in my opinion, much better than Carefresh. I didn't like Carefresh and found it had a fine dust in the air after handling. I've occasionally heard of the odd hamster having a possible allergy to Carefresh.

Although they are similar I think the difference is in what they are made of - but that is also possibly similar. Carefresh is cellulose - made from wood pulp. Kaytee Clean and Cozy doesn't state what it's made of but says it's paper based.

Either are ok beddings and a lot better than pine shavings - it may just depend which you prefer but I preferred the Kaytee to the Carefresh - in particular I preferred the texture.

In terms of harmful additives - you need to check that it isn't a scented version of either product. The scented versions aren't good for hamsters. I believe Kaytee is good for burrowing - I don't know about Carefresh.

Good question about whether the natural Kaytee is unbleached or the white one bleached - I don't know the answer to that!

I think that, just because the white Kaytee C&C is white, doesn't necessarily mean it's bleached - it says it's made from food grade paper materials I believe. The natural one, I seem to remember, has a slightly coarser texture and not quite so soft.

The Kaytee C&C is definitely better than Carefresh so I would go with that.
I’ve never used the natural one but have been using the white for quite a long time & it’s really good quality, soft & as dust free as something like that can be so I’d definitely recommend that one.

I have tried all of them and definitely prefer Kaytee clean and cozy.

I'm not keen on the Carefresh texture and had a bag once that had an unpleasant smell.

I use Kaytee white because i have six hamsters and the 85l bags work out more economical than the smaller quantities.
I prefer the more paperlike texture of the natural over the softer texture of the white but it does not come in 85l bags.

Kaytee is good for burrowing and my hamsters seem to like it.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I prefer Kaytee. I've only ever used the white so I can't comment on the natural. When I've done price comparison Kaytee always works out cheaper. Albert loves it and makes lovely tunnels.

Just to add - I notice you're in the US and there is another popular paper bedding you can buy in bulk which might work out cheaper! Called Boxo. I beleive it's only sold at Walmart. It's a natural colour and is just recycled paper so hypoallergenic and natural. Some people also mix more than one bedding so you could maybe get a small bag of Kaytee and mix the two - or just use the one.
