For russian dwarf hamster.
Is this a good food? I used to feed Bunny expert, but my new guy Ukkie thinks the seeds are too tiny, and he leaves a lot behind. Little one has bigger seeds in it, and i think he likes this better.
I read it needs extra protein. I am in the taming process with Ukkie, and he gets a couple mealworms daily. Is that ok? Or is it better to use other protein sources?
I cannot find how much protein i shpuld add to the little one mix.

I think Little One only has 13% protein - it’s quite low. But I’d need to check. The info is on the Mealberry website (they’re the makers of it).

So it would need quite a bit of protein supplementing. Is Ukkie still having science selective pellets as well? If so then you don’t really need to worry about the protein.

He seems to be ignoring the science selective for the most part now.
Maybe he takes 1 or 2 pellets a day, not enough i think.

One pellet a day would probably provide everything he needs :-)

thank you, i think he likes the little one better then Bunny, so that is what he is eating now.

He will take some science selective pellets daily, and i also use some mealworms for taming. I think he gets 3 mealworms daily now, nothing else can convince him to come out, but he is getting less shy now.

I hope the mealworms aren't to much for him. are there any other healthy treat options your hammies absolutely love?

Pumpkin seeds in their shells 😊 (ie the white ones). They love cracking them open.

Mine also go crazy for a little bit of cheesy scrambled egg :-) Not too often obviously but it's also protein. I put a tiny bit on the edge of a teaspoon (Higgins still has the teaspoon in his house! Where he dragged it).

Good to know!
Do you know any quick options? like dried mealworms?
it is convenient to have dry snacks on hand when needed, because of the easy access.

Dried things I just use white pumpkin seeds (the ones in their shells).
