Mango aka The Hamlet

I just checked it out :-) And yes there are some great mixes now. I agree though, that these non commercial ones do need something like a few science selective pellets adding to ensure they get all the vitamins etc needed and the balance (although technically they should get them from the mix anyway even though no fortified vitamins are added).

Another one I use sometimes is from Mixerama. My hamsters seem to love that, but I mix it with the HH and Bunny Dream again. I went back to HH during the pandemic as it was all you could get! So I'm just edging away from it again by mixing it.

For a new owner, HH is a fairly safe bet to begin with but yes there are some much better ones now. Some people just used the little one mix without realising it doesn't have nearly enough protein on its own so I tend to think HH is a safe bet until people know more about what's needed.

I just looked up Hammykins (previously Chubby Cheeks) - so they must have changed the name! It looks like a great mix, and yes that one probably would be good with science selective as well as no commercial vitamins added etc :-) Good tip, thanks @Yorkie
Yes,they changed the name ,because apparently there is an American Chubby cheeks that they want to ne separate from

Ah now that is interesting and I'm wondering if it was the American Chubby Cheeks I was thinking of.

Oh it's insane ,there was a certain war going on between the two brands, and the hammy groups on Facebook were making sure that they specified Chubby cheeks UK and US. In the end UK changed their name to try and end it all..It felt weird watching it all unfold, but thankfully it was seen that Chubby cheeks UK was actually lab tested and the one in the US wasn't . So you can see why I settled on the UK one. My hamsters seem to love it anyway lol

I'm going to start another thread on current food options, so I don't divert from Hamlet's thread :-) But Hamlet sounds like he is doing fine, and if you want to think about alternative hamster mixes, check out the food thread ......... :-)

Super! Thank you both, that is really helpful. We have mealworms so can easily add one of those a day. I will look into the mixes you mention.

Egg wise how much scrambled egg or boiled egg do I give? A pea size? Or a grape size?

I give a small round slice of boiled egg,or sometimes I get creative and make an omelette with one egg,no oil,and mix in sunflower seeds, split peas, pumpkin seeds, then cut it into small squares for all our hammies to have a piece.Their reactions are worth the effort.

Scrambled egg I give about half a teaspoon and they eat it from the teaspoon 😊. So a bit more than pea sized but less than grape sized 😊. They tend to just eat what they want.

The hammy omelet looks amazing 😊
