My hamster has a swollen testicle

I came to check on my hamster today and noticed his right testicle is extremely swollen and purple. Has anyone had anything similar? He’s 4 months old

Hello. It is probably normal By the time they get to this age, their testicles descend and sometimes "pop out" - often when they're warm or relaxed. They can look quite comfortable sitting on their "cushions". They stay retracted most of the time and they just have an oval shaped rear, but can look larger or "pop out" when they're comfortable or warm sometimes.

If you have a photo showing more detail, we can see if it looks normal or not.

This is the one testicle, couldn’t get a proper photo as he’s such a wriggler. But it’s very purple and swollen

Actually no that doesn't look normal. It shouldn't be dark purple like that, so yes you will need to see the vet. Is it definitely his testicle? Sometimes they can have a prolapse. But the colour isn't right so vet needed asap to get it sorted. Sorry for the bad news. It may not be anything serious but it could become serious if not treated right away.

We had a member with something similar and it was treated and resolved.
