Mystery Hamster!

Hi everyone! Rather embarrassingly, I need help identifying this hamster species. I had initially thought he was a very small Russian dwarf as he reminds me of one of my previous ones, but someone is insisting that he is a Robo. Size wise he is very similar to a Robo (rubbish comparison photo attached) however facial wise I just don't see it - I know black eyed white robos are rare too. He's meant to be several months old. Opinions please!

I wouldn't have a clue about species but he is certainly gorgeous

Yes he looks like a Robo - it's the face. And yes it's unusual to get a white robo, but not unheard of! I think the fact he is white all over, maybe hides some of the usual Robo identifying features.

He's a lovely boy - congratulations Is he handleable at all?

Yes, he is a gorgeous Robo. I have seen white Robos before but they are not that common.

Thanks everyone! That does surprise me as his eyes are so small compared to all the other robos I've seen (although that's not clear from the comparison photo). His name is yet to be decided

Do you know how old he is? Maybe his eyes will get bigger if he’s not very old! Or maybe they look smaller contrasted with his little white face.

There are a few variations in Robo colours now but the official colours are just agouti, white faced husky and white faced. I saw a mottled black and white Robo advertised once and also couldn’t believe it was a Robo.

I believe someone in the U.K. was breeding white robos about 10 years ago.

His eyes don’t look that small in the photo but photos can be deceptive, or maybe the all white coat makes them look a little smaller?
I think there are still white robos in the uk but yo don’t see them often.

Actually I think the blue/black pied colour Roborovski is a semi official colour as well.

My Robo Bernard has a white face and his eyes look smaller but i think its down to the fact that the white eye brows blend in.

In person the difference in eye size between those two hamsters is quite big, photo definitely doesn't do it justice. The standard robos eyes are at least double the size (and now I'm questioning whether she just has big bug eyes ). He's meant to be around 5 months old, so it makes more sense if he's a Robo size-wise. I've never seen a full white one, it's completely thrown me

I haven't either, but I'm aware they exist Maybe smaller eyes is a feature of the all white colouring. Do you have any more photos and I can compare with my robo (who is the teeniest Robo I've ever seen!).

Way back when I worked in shoe fashion I had to learn about colours.
White makes your feet look big.
Black makes your feet look small.
I was told this illusion also happens with other things too. For example clothes.
Maybe because the robo is white it looks bigger and black eyes look smaller. Put those two together and the black eyes look even smaller.
