Rioting hamsters ground plane

Interesting that they can allegedly bite through metal😲

I hope the remaining fugitives surrender and return to their cages safely 🐾

No they can't bite through metal :-) Which is why some hamsters get damaged teeth bar chewing. I think it claimed their teeth were harder than metal - not heard that before.. I think they got that bit not quite right. Hamsters need to gnaw because their teeth never stop growing, not because their teeth are hard as such. If the teeth were that hard, they wouldn't be able to wear them down by gnawing.

They could chew through wires but I'm not sure why a hamster would. But I suppose if loose for long enough they might chew anything.

Like you - I hope they get them back soon - don't like to think of them lost! Sounds like they need to take the aeroplane apart down to nuts and bolts though! Hamaters can hide in the tiniest of places.

Somebody needs prosecuting there re animal welfare! The cages weren't suitable it says, but the flight took them anyway. I'm assuming they were wood and got chewed through.

To be honest I thought it was an April fool at first!

I really hope they are all recovered safely. It must be very frightening and cold. Yes, hamsters may not have hard as metal teeth, but they can chew through wood pretty effectively 😕 The presence of females on heat would create great incentive and I think the number of hamsters recovered might increase before long!

I was thinking that too! It was an awful lot of hamsters - presumably more than one enclosure. It said an earlier flight refused to take them as the enclosures weren't suitable - presumably not secure. So the airline is to blame if they lose a plane for a long time.

I have a vision of them working as a team and forming an escape plan! Presumably all very young as well if in together.

The second photo with the article is so sad, the hamster looks wet and thin. How could so many be allowed to be shipped together 😔

It is sad isn't it. It sounds like they've mostly survived but they shouldn't be shipping hamsters in crates by air - from breeding mills no doubt. There should be a law for pet shops not to accept hamsters shipped by air.

They certainly don't have the welfare and happiness of their hamsters at heart 😔

I was thinking they might use poison, but fumigating a plane might create the risk of pressurised gasses going into places they were not meant to be. Pellets might also escape or change into something hazardous. I hope they find all of the little fellows. Perhaps they were going to divert the plane to Syria 😉

Thankfully there was no mention of that - only about catching them, and they had caught most of them.
