Hello guys,
Sweetie is good, she will be two in October and she is really lovely and affectionate and, I’m thinking to have a second hamster.
What do you can tell me about Roboriski? They are so cute!
I’m scared of siryans…I think if they bite will hurt… 😅

There’s no need to be scared of Syrians - I’ve never been bitten by one :)

Robos are great but often difficult to tame and handle and many people see them more as watch pets but they can make you laugh watching their antics and they can still bond with you and interact by listening while you chat.

Because many of them aren’t tamed it can be tricky to get them out of the cage and it’s not good to chase them around trying to catch them! Better if they walk into something. And that can take time. But they do enjoy playpen time.

Lovely to hear Sweetie is doing fine- I can’t believe she will be two in October! Time flies. Raffy is nearly two and a half now 😊

Thank you!
Let’s see what my heart will take me to 🥰

I think that sounds a good idea :-) A hamster may choose you. I do have a soft spot for both male Syrians and Roborovskis :) You're more likely to have handling time and interaction with a Syrian and they can be quirky and funny, but can need some time to get used to you before they can be handled - ie some taming.

I’m scared to be bitten by a siryan unless you know some good breeder that have puppies already tamed lol

I think most Syrians are partly tamed by the time they come to you. In a pet shop they are handled regularly and rescues sometimes tame them as well a bit. It's very rare for Syrians to bite. The only reason a hamster bites is out of fear or pain. And they tend to only bite if handled roughly. If you choose carefully it's fine - if a hamster looks bright eyed and comes up to you then they are friendly. You can suss something about their personalities, just looking at them before you get one.

I don't know any official breeders in Spain unfortunately! Some Roborovskis can be completely stressed and run away and hide and scared of humans - especially if they've had a load of stress before they come to you.

So whichever hamster you choose, have a good watch of them when you go to get one. Do they seem confident and interested or nervous and skitty? Some of that is just their personality.

Thank you for the tip.
I live in UK not in Spain 😂
I’ll keep in mind your advise and let you know when I’ll get there 🥰

Dur! Why did I think you lived in Spain?! :ROFLMAO: There was something about Spain wasn't there? Ok well that's a different matter. Where were you thinking of getting the hamster from? Happy Hamsters sometimes have roborovskis and they know they individual personalities :-) Or if you're near London, India's Hamster rescue has hamsters regularly. There aren't many roborovski NHC breeders and it depends where you live as to whether an NHC breeder would have Syrian babies available :-)

Spain is lovely but I’m Italian and I live in London lol
I will check the breeders you suggested even if I’m at Pet at home and the staff told me that they have Roborovski 8 weeks old ready to be adopted. They came here as puppies and abandoned by the old owner 😭

Aw it sounds like you have your heart set on a Roborovski :-) So sad they were abandoned and I'm sure you'd give one a lovely home.

India's Hamster rescue (London and they travel) has a litter of baby Syrians if you're interested! They look so cute and will no doubt be handled regularly. But I know you're keen on getting a Roborovski :-)

So…I contacted Indians hamster via WhatsApp and the person has one puppy of siryan available. I told her I have already an hamster and I sent a pic of sweetie to her. The person asked me what plan I have for the cage for my new hammy and I asked her suggestions…she gave me her suggestions and then she wanted a picture of my actual cage…
I found this draining and annoying, I appreciate everything but as much the cage is big enough, clean, with safe toys, with plenty of food and water I don’t want other people dictate what cage I must to have lol

I know what you mean - rescues do that these days and want to see the cage set up etc. If you feel more comfortable getting one of the robos without all this then that might be better for you :) I had the same thing when I rescued Raffy and Pip but I believe there are even more things to have to show now. When I rescued Raffy it was just a decent cage size and set up to be shown. Now, some rescues say you need to have 3 different types of substrate, a certain sized sand bath, a certain depth of bedding, sprays and various other things. While most of us provide all this enrichment anyway, it can be a bit off-putting can't it?!

I am not keen when they say it must be a tank style cage, for example, because I like to use my own initiative and preferences on the type of cage and tend to prefer barred cages, even if adapted.

Exactly! You got my point. So Pet at home forever at this point for me
