Safe freeze-dried chicken options

He also explained that fruit and veggies are not so dangerous when taken to the storage. He says if they rot the sugar (ie apples) can ferment them and this causes a slight percentage of alcohol. But hamsters have two stomachs and can easily cope with the fermentation/ alcohol. Nature has taken this into consideration and they adjusted accordingly. I hope I got this all correct 😅 it’s very interesting. He explained that in nature the hamster storages often have the issue that food ferments.
What is in his option an absolute nogo: any treats with sugar or honey. He told me to try all treats even if they claim to be sugar free just to be sure. That’s why I tried a yogurt drop 🤢🙄

Yes I tend to stick to things like pumpkin seeds and nuts for treats :-) Although I do give honey and spelt chew sticks occasionally. The main reason to avoid too much sugar and honey is they can get dental decay just like us! And get overweight.

I haven't translated the chicken bites, but it could be worth emailing the manufacturer and asking if they are raw freeze dried or cooked freeze dried, and if they are raw, are they pasteurised. If you look further back on the thread there is some info about this. Freeze drying alone isn't enough to kill bacteria in raw chicken.
