Socks: Mouseworks Dynamic Cardboard Redesign and Basic Tunneling

That's lovely :-) And yes they are - the body might be getting older but they still love to live life - and have that extra bit of confidence in old age :)

Aw he's only really on the verge of old age :-) I bet he's still spritely for a long time - even if a bit less often :-)

Phew, dentist appointment over for today, more on Wednesday 😬 but it wasn't at all bad and was very necessary 🦷 Hamsters are so charming in later life. Socks was out just now to pouch his veggies, nibbling and listening to me chatting to him. He is such a sweet fellow ❤️

I wish one of my teeth would re-grow :ROFLMAO: You mean you actually have a dentist? It's so hard to get one now.

Yes, but not an NHS dentist. Teeth are rather unaffordable these days. The work has to be done however and I don't have a car, I get free off peak transport and don't have human dependants, so I can afford the treatment, I'm fortunate. The old silver fillings start to go eventually and mine were very precarious, so I'm glad I had them done 🦷 Perhaps one day lab grown teeth will be transplanted to repair and replace teeth. Everyone will get a spare set of teeth 😁

Oh I've for years - why can't they invent something so we can grow new teeth!?

Mom: I decided to try some enrichment as Socks spends a lot of time sadly meerkatting in his cage waiting for me to take him to the playpen at 3am.
Socks: I have a lot of bowls with nice smelling forage and cool reptile sand in them. There is a big (well big to me) ceramic bowl under my door which is lovely and cool as the reptile sand is slightly moist.
Mom: Unfortunately Socks shows very little interest in nice forage, hay and Timothy hay seed heads and black oil sunflowers, although I do find sunflower seeds in his hoard alot. The sand met with the same indifference, but he does use his corner tray toilet quite fastidiously and it always has a wet patch.
Socks: Mom, ahem 🤨
Mom: However, Socks found a tray with wood shavings in it amongst forage and sun flower seeds.
Socks: Mom's wondering if it reminded me of when I was a pup, I must have been on woodshavings back when I was a tiny hamster living with my siblings and my real mom.
Mom: Socks pouched alot of woodshavings and spent a long time standing in the tub, sniffing them with his nose deep in the shavings ❤️
The sand bowl is really nice and cool 🧊

They’re very curious creatures. You spend money and give them some really lovely options and they just turn them down! Blossom is still most happy in her dig box made from a too small wheel and shredded cardboard which cost nothing, and still loves the odd chew on a bit of eggbox!

I changed it for you :-)

I take it its hot where you are! It's been raining here for a couple of days.
Thanks Maz ❤️ Yes, it's 27C indoors. We've got frozen bottles in socks and cool pods in the cages as well as granite blocks and fridge ice packs for cool boxes. I'm worried about Monday when I have to go to work for the day. On Tuesday I should be working from home. I put a damp towel and clothes on the clothes horse in front of the windows and the fan and dehumidifier are going. I am going to trim more fur off Truffle the guinea pig tonight to help him as he doesn't enjoy this weather. Everyone is eating mini cucumbers 🥒🥒🥒 with great relish. I put some water in the guinea pigs ears (and on mine).

I think the hot weather is heading our way next week :-) Stay cool!

Yes, it’s roasting here, although I have managed to keep indoors to a cool 24.9 degrees 😏🥵

When it hit 40 degrees a few years ago, I taped a couple of those car windscreen reflective screens to the windows to deflect some heat which made a tiny difference, but any difference is better than none!

Absolutely 👍 staying cool is a mixture of little steps. We've got a bowl of ice in front of the fan, which is nice. The curtains are closed. The temperature has crept up from 22C to 25.6C. I'm putting ice in the cages wrapped in fleece. Socks hopes Blossom has a nice cool day 🌼❤️
