Socks: Mouseworks Dynamic Cardboard Redesign and Basic Tunneling

Socks: The weekly cage trashing...
Mom: ...Cleaning 😉...
Socks: The weekly cage trashing came round early this week on Saturday 🙄
Mom: I tried to avoid collapsing Socks' sweet little best tunnel and annex but I had to get him out and
Socks: She picked me up in the middle of a lot of bedding and everything came tumbling down into a jumblement.
Mom: I think that's the technical term for it. We won't mention the wet bedding as that has been changed for clean, dry Fitch.
Socks: Mom and I caught up at 4am for a play pen session. Remember Mom?
Mom: I think the guinea pigs worry Socks a bit. He stops his wheel and leans out to listen when they rustle about. They are very quiet at night and graze very softly or snooze all night.
Socks: It's nice to have a 1:1 session with Mom but that means coming out when things are quiet. I can tell when she is sleeping lightly and wait near the door to get her attention.
Mom: I think hamsters are far better kept as only pets or at least in a room with no other animals, unless it's other hamsters or possibly smaller rodents such as gerbils. People talk about ghost hamsters, perhaps that's why some hamsters are more reticent. I think if they get used to other animals when they are very young, that might work. Socks looked so sweet in the moonshine. It was a very special time, worth getting up for.
Socks: The moonshine shone directly onto my wheel. I ran in tight circles around my wheel and did a few laps through the cardboard tunnels before jumping on the wheel for a spin.
Mom: I was great to see Socks' paws flying as he raced on his wheel ❤🐾

Saturday came round and a familiar noise disturbed my sleep.
Mom: Socks was in his nest with a pecan nut nearby for convenience. The rest of his hoard was near his loo, a little too close to it unfortunately.
Socks: For convenience...😉 Well when you're old you don't feel like getting up in the day to go too far, do you?
Mom: I carefully kept the pecan nut to return to Socks later.
Socks: Mom's nice, isn't she?
Mom: Socks sniffed at my fingers gently and bowed his head for a few seconds. Eventually he got out of bed and I could carefully lift him into a small carrier to weigh him. His weight appears to be stable.
Socks: Good news 👍🏼
Mom: He is fragile and his legs tend to splay if he isn't supported properly when climbing out of a tunnel or from my hand into his veggie bowl or a platform.
Socks: Mom noticed that I caught my hip on my way down the roof hole of my cardboard multi-chamber house, although it is nice and wide, so she built up the bedding to make a ramp and puts my veggies bowl on the bedding instead of on the house roof now. She's nice, isn't she ❤ I get porridge for dinner a few times a week, flax seeds and Science Selective hamster food to supplement my diet as well as a small piece of cooked sweet potato or butternut squash.
Mom: Socks is looking very handsome.
Mom and Socks: 😊🐾

Aw sorry to hear Socks is showing signs of ageing in his back legs. I'm sure he'll appreciate the assistance with the changes :-)

Yes, he still uses his wheels and scoots quickly around his playpen but avoids climbing now. The monkey barring of his youth is over now ❤🐾

Strangely, this morning I was dozing at about 3am when I heard a strange, low pitched metallic twanging sound. It was Socks, he had climbed the door of his Omlet cage all the way to the roof 🙂 I collected him in his tube taxi and we had a nice session in the playpen 🥰

Just to prove you wrong lol 😜

Socks: Mom has moved my cage because the weather is getting a bit colder. It's near the heater.
Mom: The playpen is between my bed and Socks' cage 😄
Socks: She lies in bed and watches me on my wheel and talks to me and sings songs while staying warm.
Mom: but once or twice I have fallen asleep
Socks: I was left sitting in the cold 🙁
Mom: I've got better at not doing that though.
Socks: I can take a while to warm up on my wheel. My back paws almost slipped off the other night. I enjoy my playpen sessions though.
Mom: He comes running across the cage to climb onto the cage door. Then he gets into the taxi tube very carefully. Now it's only a matter of lifting him down a few inches.
Socks: I miss Blossom 😔
Mom: She was lovely 💮
Socks: She's a little star now.
Mom: A hamstar 🌈
Socks: Hamsters are made to see the stars in a special way. They light our life and guide us by night.
Socks and Mom: Here's to remembering good friends and old friends ❤

We missed a night on Friday...
Mom: The night before started well...
Socks: But Mom suddenly lay down and went to sleep at 3:30 in the morning.
Mom: It was supposed to be a quick nap 🙂
Socks:
Mom: I woke to the sound of a plastic partition being chewed. Sitting up hastily, I saw Socks huddled over in a corner of the playpen trying to chew through the plastic.
Socks: It sort of annoys me when she falls asleep...
Mom: I called Socks, he chewed on. I touched his fur, he chewed on. So eventually I picked him up and put him on his wheel.
Socks: Mom moved the partitions so they were flat. Not as easy to chew 😐
Mom: Socks ran from tunnel to tunnel. Finally he went on his wheel.
Mom and Socks: Last night we had a nice playpen session. The moon was bright.
Socks: I hopped into the sandbath for a bit. I ran through my seagrass tunnel. Flitted about the playpen
Mom: ...like a little bird. And there was no chewing 😄

He was definitely trying to get your attention :-) He's a lucky boy having a moonlit playpen excursion.

Oh no, that's unfortunate but very kind of Socks to wake you up. Staying up extra late for the little guy

Socks was out in his cage this evening, walking across it, trying to find his veggies bowl.
Socks: The clocks have caused a dinner jumblement...
Mom dashed to the kitchen and grabbed a lettuce leaf and pieces of celery.
Socks: I was delighted with the veggies ❤
Mom: I could see Socks' pleased expression when I fed him little bits of Romaine leaf and celery. I gave him some pecan nut and a pumpkin seed. He took the veggies very carefully and politely ❤
Socks: I had to manoeuvre the pecan nut around to fit in my pouch.
Mom: Socks had a nice long drink. His coat is looking nice at the moment with elegant touches of grey. He's such a gentleham 😍

Mom: We bought an Omlet playpen. I hope we get to try it tonight. It's very nice and well made. Only thing, one of the press studs pops out. The others are fine. It's nice and big. The old playpen panels are chewed at the corners into sharp bits of plastic.
Socks: I'm looking forward to trying it out ❤

I've always thought the omelet playpen looked good. Hope 🧦 enjoys it. Love the word jumblement...its a great word 👍

Oh that sounds great :-) He'll love it. Was that with the 15% off? Those press-studs are a pain - I don't bother to use the floor part and just have the playpen itself on the floor :-) although you could use the plastic floor part without doing the press studs probably.

I used the link on the forum, but the price was the full price. I was in too much of a hurry to fix it, but I'm happy with the playpen, so I'm not worried. It is very nice. Socks tried it out last night ❤️ I put cardboard under the corners where he chews to stop him from biting the carpet in case he swallows carpet fibre. It worked really well. It is a nice big pen. He raced around it and then hopped on his wheel and ran for a while. I think he was quite tired when he went back to his cage in the taxi tube 🥰

I used it with the floor for the gin gins (aka piggies). It's a nice size for them to get a bit of exercise ❤️
