I was thinking about taming a hamster, and thinking actually , its’s more like them taming us…watching, observing and listening to their preferences, and shaping our responses to their preferences instead of imposing our preferences on them…definitely giving opportunities for them, but accepting their preferences and building relationship with them.

They will if we let them ha ha. The hand taming so they accept touch is slightly different. Some hamsters are easily handled straight away. Others react badly to being touched but get used to it once they trust you.

A risk is that children sometimes try to stop the hamster from moving from hand to hand, which can result in the hamster jumping and being injured by the fall. Many, if not most, hamsters, keep moving and won't sit still for long to be cuddled, which can be frustrating for the owner if they need a cuddly pet.

It’s what I’m thinking…not being frustrated by them if they’re not what we think they should be, but getting to know them as they actually are, and learning to love them for what they are, and enjoying the relationship which builds up out of that.
