Tino's thread

I tried adjusting Tino’s cork log last night to make a slightly larger entrance/exit but only managed a little bit more space. I think I might need to swap the cork log out for a slightly shorter one - I do have another one.

Yes :-) I didn't see him last night though.

It was a very slow start with Tino as he disappeared for ages and was very shy at first. But he's definitely ready now.

I hope it goes well and look forward to hearing about the free roaming when it happens!

Thank you. I need the right night - I keep going to bed early at the moment and am tired at night. I'm sure it'll happen soon though!

I hope Tino decides he likes free roaming so much he comes out earlier for his new adventures. He has certainly developed his character now no longer the shy boy which is lovely.

He has indeed. He still always looks a lot slower than Higgins, when in the cage, but not when he's out! Unfortunately we all have colds now so keeping away from them a bit for a few days.

It's not that bad, but a lot of coughing and sneezing. OH had it first, and I got it today. Don't want to cough and sneeze near them!

Tino wanted to come out tonight. I washed my hands and kept a bit of distance from him and let him into the playpen.

Anyway here he is - it's interesting seeing their different personalities! Tino is sort of slower and gentler - although he can move fast when he wants! I had two wheels in the playpen tonight - his old baby wheel from the bathtub just for fun. It's only 10.5" but I think he remembered it. And his old log from the bathtub.

His ear - investigating the camera :-)

A couple of short videos - I cut the clips and cut out the bits where he wasn't doing much! I think he looks so cute at the start of this one, appearing out of his log - and then a bit surprised when it rolled over.

I also had the dressing gown belt hanging down in the playpen again and he reacted very differently to Higgins! Sort of investigated it slightly and that was it. He is sitting listening the odd time on this one, as he could hear OH doing something in the kitchen and then going upstairs.

So cute how he looked at the top of the playpen wall and then looked over his shoulder at you questioningly with a little bit of a naughty look in his eye 🤔

He is very agile. He turned to catch the log as it rolled and climbed onto the carrot cottage without it tipping 🏠

Thank you both. Yes he really is adorable - his almost in his prime at a year old (in my opinion) and has such a lovely personality now - still a bit too gentle to make a fuss, but very laid back and accepting of things now. Yes he is quite agile and also strong and cautious. I did wonder why he decided to climb on top of the carrot cottage! Maybe just because it was something to climb on.

And Tino wanted out again tonight! Clearly on a roll at the moment. Tonight I had the long side of the playpen up against the small sofa, so if he jumped off he'd land in the playpen. After he'd been in the playpen for a bit, I let him walk into his tube and let him out on my knee and for a little explore on the sofa. He sat for a stroke and a cuddle in the crook of my arm for quite a long time, twice, which was nice :-) He of course went straight for the arms of the sofa - no playpen on the other side of those, so I had to keep lifting him back to where I was sitting - although he did have a little explore along the cushions at the back. He did seem a little alarmed at times, at this change of scene. But generally I think he enjoyed the change of scenery and it was so nice he sat for cuddles and strokes. Longer than Higgins!

He's such a big heavy hamster, he actually struggled a bit to climb the sofa! Not used to vertical heights :)

I didn't get many photos or video as I had my hands full keeping him on the sofa! But there's the odd shot ....... What he really wants though is to get out of the playpen and into the rest of the room. Our floor isn't level in places so with the playpen in a different position there was the odd tiny gap under it. Not big enough for Tino to get under but he was having a good sniff in those areas and kept standing up to look at the room beyond.

So we're working towards him free roaming - he is trained to always walk into his tube when I offer it now - did that three or four times tonight. So should be able to get him back ok. I like them trained to walk into something :-) And I can't be scrabbling round on my hands and knees any more with my bad knees! But someone else can if it comes to it! I just need to wait until there's a night when I can stay up a bit later! As he didn't come out till about 10.30pm and by 11pm I'm wanting to get to bed!

Hello handsome Tino!
Bless him he worked so hard to climb onto the tube at the end of the video, well done little man.

I think he knows it's his birthday on Sunday! And is coming out early to celebrate :-)

It's a big day and I think it changes them a bit. I think they become closer to you as they need to cooperate with you more. I'm sure it will go well ❤️
And most of them will end up loving it and wanting more! I'm really excited to see and hear about it Maz, it's fun when their personality starts coming out in full once they trust you
