Happy Hamsters Uk (rescue) is closing down. I just happened to look at Happy Hamsters web page yesterday (even though I know two hamsters is enough for me!) and saw they only had four hamsters to adopt Nationwide which seemed unusual - I did wonder if they might be winding down.
Then today saw a post confirming that they are closing down and moving on to new ventures in life - so wishing them all the luck.
They were, as far as I know, the first and biggest hamster rescue in the Uk for a long time. They did amazing work, setting up in York and having branches all over the Uk with teams of fosterers. And running big hamster fayres annually.
I have had three hamsters from them. Raffy and Pip and, briefly, a little dwarf hamster.
They did an amazing job and would actually bring the hamsters to your home.
I am sure the world of hamster rescues will carry on - there are a number of new ones now and a very active rescue page on Facebook where people foster hamsters advertised in the small ads, to ensure they go to good homes and suitable housing. Although I do think it will be a loss to the North of England - many rescues are in the South.
Sophie and Kate were the two who started it in York and who also ran the hamster fayres for a few years. Wishing them good luck!
