Hi all, last year our beloved hamster died after getting a respectable 2 years and 6 months old. I am still wondering if it was a he or she though, perhaps somebody in the forum can determine for me
Hello and welcome. I am so sorry Frizzy has passed away and what an amazing age. You clearly cared well for Frizzy, who seems to have been a rather adorable Russian dwarf hamster from the photo. I am not the greatest at sexing Russian dwarfs (Syrians are easy to tell!) and it's not too clear from that photo as Frizzy's back end is slightly squished together, so there's no clear view of the tummy (nipples or scent gland) or testicle area. But it does look like there may be a central scent gland there so maybe male?
Elusive or Beryl may know as they've had a few dwarf hamsters
This diagram shows the difference if you remember or have a clearer photo of the underside.
With this article, we hope to help pawrents identify their hamsters’ sex/gender more effectively. Of course, the anatomy of each hamster might differ, but we hope to cover as many variations as possible so that you can be sure if your hamster is a boy or a girl!
Hi & welcome to the forum.
So sorry for the loss of your beloved ham, he did enjoy a good long life with you & I’m sre he’s missed.
I can’t really tell from that photo for sure if he is a he or not really.
