Pip the Robo

Thank you Elusive. He stands/sits on the little teracotta dish which is under the bottle to catch drips :)

Aw, he likes the water bowl now! How cute. Maybe his little chair could be put in front of the salt pig to make it easier for him to get inside? He looks very happy with his new set up. :)

He looks very active and lively enjoying himself.
I use pieces of cork as steps. You could put one in front of the shelf by the bottle. He seems determined to climb this shelf.

Thank you all. I like the chair idea Rainbow! I don't think there will be space for it there and am thinking a thin piece of cork would do it. There isn't any room between the bottle and the shelf unfortunately Beryl, it would mean losing the carrot house and moving the bottle to the front corner. I'm just going to see how it plays out as he may change habits now I'm putting the veg near the water bottle again :-)

You can see the little terracotta plate under the water bottle here. For the past 18 months it always had his veg on. But I needed something to put under the water bottle to catch drips, so gave him a different plate on the shelf with the veg on. Clearly he associates that terracotta dish with veg though. So I think it was confusing to him that the veg was on the shelf, but the veg plate wasn't! Hence I've now started putting the veg back on the terracotta plate instead of on the shelf. He likes to site on that little teracotta plate while he's eating the veg.

The carrot house is in the front corner of the cage and due to the limited depth of the cage there's no room to add anything else there. The water bottle only has the few bars in that gap along that side where it can go and only at that height, due to all the perspex - there isn't enough height for the water bottle anywhere else in the cage.

Technically I could swap the water bottle and carrot cottage over, but I think the change would just stress him at the moment. He can get on the shelf quite easily by hopping on the ladder :). He seems very happy in the cage, but I still like to give them a few days adjustment time before changing anything, to avoid stress. I kept wishing it was the deeper Plaza 120 so I could fit more in.

This photo was taken before I lowered the water bottle down the holder a bit - it's at the right height now.

It is lovely to hear how happy Pip is in his cage with his new set up. :)

How about two identical terracotta dishes? One to catch drips and one for the veg.

That would be nice but that one was a one off. It came with a Rodipet house and they don’t do that type any more. I still think that would confuse him though. He seems happy enough just having the veg on the dish under the water bottle and I like to give it a bit of time to see how things work out.

Pip came out about before I went to bed last night, about 11pm ish while Raffy was free roaming again. He went straight to his plate under the water bottle and sat on it eating his veg. I went over to talk to him and he just sat staring at me while he was eating the veg. He then was out and about a bit.

I checked the nightcam today and he didn't come out till much later, but seems to be gradually exploring the cage. He seems to like sitting between the house and cork log to have a bit of a groom then hopping on his wheel, repeat repeat.

I think he's working out some new routes and habits with everything being slightly different. He was exploring the front left corner a bit last night, where the sprays are and checking out the perspex a bit. He has also started sitting under the shelf a bit - presumably grooming as well. I put a tiny bit of cheese on his chair last night and he found that, so he sat on his chair eating that. He seems quite relaxed out and about but still working out what he likes to do where. He had a nibble of the millet on top of the shelter where the cork granule container is. He seems to like climbing into the cork granule salt pig.

I'm going to give him a good 10 days before deciding whether to change anything, as it's a bit like a full cage move, even though some things are familiar. Until he feels fully settled in and at home. Then see how his habits have developed and what might need tweaking. I need to get some thin cork to make a step up to the salt pig. He can get in it but it would be easier with a slight step.

It sounds like Pip is getting used to his new set up and is happy with it. It is good you have the camera so you can see if anything needs tweaking.

Pip is really quite delightful at the moment. He comes out around 11.30pm at night and is happy to have a few looks with me and a wander around. He goes straight for his veg of course.

That’s so nice that you’re seeing more of him again now, must be lovely to watch him out & about & enjoying his veg.

I'm pleased you're seeing more of Pip 💕 What does Raffy have to say about it? 😉

Raffy was behind the TV in a cardboard box, so maybe didn't notice this time!

I finally put together a video on how the cage was set up with the perspex :) . There are a couple of very short clips of Pip in the cage the first evening as well. It's not that long - about 3 minutes.
