Assume you know to transfer his bedding from his old cage as well . I tend to spread it on top of the new so it smells familiar. I also save the nest and put it inside the house.

Mine still needs a bit of filling up! I’ve got a few things in the freezer.

If you need to wait until you can order more bedding thats okay. I would have everything set up just how you want before moving Socks. Thats just what I would do anyway.

It is quite a tall cage yes, compared to the Hamster Heaven it’s more noticeable. But as long as there’s plenty of substrate to land on it’s fine - I also put and hard or sharp floor items under a shelf. Bendy brushes can be hard to land on so I sometimes change something over those so they can’t be land on - eg a rat Sputnik.

Yes, his nest and its box along with his carefully prepared stash are moving. I want to move them as carefully as possible to keep them intact. I might add the fitch in small amounts to keep the old bedding on top. The loo paper will be mixed in at various levels, but not too much at once.

Here we are so far. I put toilet paper where ever Socks might land from monkey barring. The Carrot Cottage is an entrance to his Quaker Oats box and I put a shoe box on top of the QO box later. His nest proper transferred cleanly, poop and all. He has given it a back door! He's starting to settle and has taken some muesli into his big nest.

Are you going to get one? For a lot of hamsters, Christmas has come twice this year.

He usually let's go and drops down the side. I put a layer of Fitch down too but his old bedding is just underneath it and on top in his main nest box along with his carefully arranged loo paper nest, food and a small amount of poop.

Are you going to add the panels you bought? I remember you mentioned they will fit this cage too.

Yes, I think they will help to increase the height of the bedding in possibly a corner. His bar biting is less since I stopped feeding him through the bars (touch wood)

That sounds good. The increased bedding will encourage him to make burrows too.

Yes, it will be really great if he starts burrowing in the bedding. The extra space is lovely! I'm hoping the monkey barring is temporary and I can relax a bit on the toilet paper front!

It looks like he’s exploring . He’ll be happy to still have his old house and nest etc. I’m sure he’ll settle in fairly quickly.

Sorry, only just had a proper look He has lots to do in there. That's a clever idea to make the carrot cottage as an entrance to something else.

Thanks, yes, I wanted to make it a bit darker and he is quite fond of going in there. I think it is his second sleeping spot. I'll have to try to start an alternative cellar as the old HH plastic tube is a bit narrow.

I found chew marks on the door and the bars looked like they had been widened in that place. I must have slept through the bar biting. I have put 2 screw on wooden carrots there. I have loo roll inners on standby.

Out of stock already I've had a busy few days what with Xmas, ohs birthday yesterday and daughters today so I've only just seen it! Hopefully it'll come back in stock soon! Xx

I think it will help once you are able to put the panels up. The deeper bedding will help Socks to burrow and distract him from bar biting.
