This was mentioned a while back, but I'm trying out Amazon affiliate links - for various things already listed on here from Amazon. As a way of helping fund the forum ongoing. Any page that has them will say - this page has Amazon affiliate links. There probably won't be that many - just for items already suggested (eg on the cages page or the occasional article) instead of the regular Amazon link.

It means if someone buys the item from that link, the forum gets a small percentage. However, you may find some items are cheaper elsewhere and want to shop around! Certain cages are only available from Amazon however.

It's a work in progress and you probably won't notice much difference - I'm just changing the odd old link for a new one :-)

It may or may not help fund the forum! It doesn't earn anything until at least 3 purchases have been made. But I have added some bedding links in the bedding and litter article, for fitch, megazorb, carefresh and aubiose.

In fact maybe I should do a bedding thread as well as cages thread - with all options listed in one place on the forum - not just in the article, which just mentions a few options.

It's going to take me quite a long time, a bit at a time so nothing will change that suddenly, although I have updated the cages list and the bedding/litter article.

It's a good idea, and very useful for us. Thank you 🙏 I like the idea of having Amazon links for products. I think we usually link the Amazon page anyway, so why not get paid for it? A definite yes from me.

That's exact;ly it. The links are already there for various things :-) Not everything linked on here is from Amazon of course! There are links to various other sites - wherever items are available or a choice for prices etc Eg Rodipet, Ferplast etc. but most Ferplast items are sold on Amazon and usually cheaper there, and quite a few Getzoo items are sold on Amazon as well with quicker delivery and delivery cost included.

So it'll just be like before. Eg on the cages list, if there's a choice of stockists I still put the cheapest option usually, regardless of where it's from, or a couple of options (becuase prices vary on different sites all the time anyway).

Time will tell whether it makes more than £1 a year or whatever :ROFLMAO:

Update:

Now have affiliate links from Amazon, Awin and Skimlinks, so this means links can be created for Amazon products, Pets at Home Products and Omlet Products :-) I need to manually create the links and it will say clearly if something is an affiliate link or not.

It means that if anyone uses that particular link to buy something, then the forum gets a small commission, but you don't pay any extra price - just the same as before.

So I've updated a couple of the articles that list products (the bedding and wheels article and the budget cage option article (which only has a couple of affiliate links), and also updated the recommended cages article, so most cages have an affiliate link :-)

Obviously people don't buy cages very often! But there are guests and visitors who read the articles and may decide to buy something for their hamster from one of those links.

Still not sure if it'll make more than a £1 over a year :ROFLMAO:

I've also updated the Terms and Rules, Privacy Policy and cookies policy to say we use affiliate links for Amazon, Skimlinks and Awin.

Zooplus and Etsy are also on Awin but I'm waiting for them to accept me - then I could change any Zooplus or Etsy links to affiliate ones as well.

Ok after fiddling about with a little automatic notice to appear at the top of threads that have affiliate links in I have got that set up. Apologies if it looked a bit in your face at first, but I've made it neater and less in your face now! So it's just a line at the top of a post that contains an affiliate link - like the one at the top of this post (I've added an affiliate link to the post, just so you can see the disclaimer line at the top of the post).

It is just for Amazon, ebay, pets at home, Omlet, links and the occasional Wayfair link - I'll let you know if anything changes,

Additionally, some links from those sites that any member posts, may be converted to forum affiliate links.
